So I've started playing Trial Mech-only PUGs, in honor of the fact that most in-universe mechwarriors would have NOT had a customized, totally tricked-out mech to ride.

Although my performance is quite horrible, it's a change learning to deal with weapons you don't want, running too hot, and not always having AMS to have your back.

Anyone else trying this?

Maybe one or two games at a pop, but my play time is rather limited, and I think of the time I have on as time that I should be productively building up my mech roster. when I play in trials, although I get Cbills for the match, there is no forward progress towards completing my mechs. It can be a nice change though if you want to mix it up. Customization isn't going anywhere, because it adds a level of strategy and depth to the game. Some may say that many players run the same min max builds, but not all do, and everyone likes a machine fine tuned to run exactly how they like. I think you meant "ECM" on your back... ;)

Depends on the day, how I'm feeling, and the trial Mech. Some have been decent, some have been horrible. Mostly I run my custom mechs, but if I'm bored or need a laugh I'll do it.

hahah.. no actually meant having AMS to protect me. ..

But I think it's quite clear the trial mechs are not optimized can be seen in my rather successful last few games with a HBK-4SP. It's about the only stock mech that's quite survivable and useful.
