As many of you are probably well aware our little walking battle mechs are powered by nuclear reactors so I have a wee question. when a mech gets cored why doesn't it explode? if you remember back the the first trailer for MWO they showed a mech going critical and taking out a nearby atlas! and it got me thinking, why don't they incorporate that into the game??

as a suggestion, when a mech gets cored why not have it explode doing say 20? points of damage to anything within 50-100 meters? think about how cool it would be to see a mech near you get cored and start glowing white, then you know you only have seconds to run away before the thing goes supanova and seriously damages anything stupid enough to be about??
You could maybe even make it a sort of module or pilot perk? like a over reactive core? I could match it to that perk in CoD when you drop a grenade at your feet when you die?

for me this could add another element to battles and also add a little bit more realism and unpredictably?

what do you ladies think?

http://www.sarna.net...i/Fusion_Engine
Fusion reactors (That work on nuclear fusion).
Reactors just shut down when damaged. In rare cases the vaccum chamber at the core can be breached (4 critical hits I think), then ambient air is sucked in and by contact with plasma is superheated, making the bright flash that could be seen in some older Mechwarrior games (and that does damage by game rules).
The whole point in coring a mech is to force its engine to shutdown due to said safeguard protocols that make it not go nuclear, so you must consider the thing the other way around.
That said, the occasional thermal expansion could be cool to deal with, especially for brawlers.

I say bring back the self destuct button.
Out of guns anf out of ammo?
Ram the nearest enemy and slam the Big Red Button.

Deal 30 splash damage in 100m radius to everyone.

thanx for that info on the fusion reactor!

also the self destruct button, thats a nice idea! but I can see so many issues with that? like suicides at the start of a match? or abusing it to hurt friendlies? I think they really need to tune the current points system before that could be a reality?

on a side note I would much prefer to see a performance related pay system, where if you do nothing you earn nothing...
