Thats why I would prefer that AMS would work against missiles even point blank range (IOW they should have less range, but faster reaction time against missiles).

Yeah it would make it more appealing as a detterent from STREAK R*A*P*E

It's only 1.5 tons.

And a ton of ammo.

And it would also help against normal SRM...

Best AMS system out there, cover. Honestly AMS is a waste unless you have 1.5 tons you can't find anything better for. I would only consider it if it worked well against SSRMS.

I use it on some mechs and not on others. The deciding factor is usually speed but can also be the loadout. If I build a sniper style mech I don't count on ECM hanging out and protecting my mech so I have AMS just in case I get targeted. Slower mechs, I tend to put it on in case an ECM mech is following an opposing one countering it's field which in turn makes me vulnerable. Fast mechs tend to not get it since I can often hit cover before I get slammed too hard.

whenever possible, AMS is on my mech.. helps specially if you got 3 or 4 mechs with it, no LRMs get through

1.5 is with a ton of ammo. AMS is .5 tons but needs at least one ton to function so most people count it as 1.5. ^_^

I have taken in off most of my mechs in faver of bigger engines, more ammo, etc.

Pre ECM, all my mechs had one and 2 tons of ammo and I would run out of ammo in half my matchs. Post ECM, it seems I'm always bring back a full load of ammo.

Use cover, stay near ECM or mechs withAMS.

Some of my mechs carry it, but AMS isn't as crucial as it once was, of course if more and more mechs start boating LRM's again, you'll probably see a rise in the amount of AMS being used.

I re-evaluate the weapons each patch. That said, AMS always seems to rank highly for a few reasons.

First, it is among the only active defensive measures available to a mechwarrior, and it is available on a lot more mechs than ECM.

Second, if I have 1000 AMS (1 ton of ammo) and they run out, I figure that his 1000 damage that my team has not taken.

Thirdly, since I PUG (pick up group) alot, general strat is to stick together. As others have said in this thread, 4 or 5 AMS cancels out a couple of LRM boats, by making a "AMS shield".

AMS cannot be "jammed" like ECM.

Yes cover first, ECM second, AMS third as defensive measures go at the start of the round. As the battle spreads out though, I will kill off a stragler, even if I have to leave the ECM protection. Eventhough AMS is sometimes lets some damage through, it may make escape to cover possible, or keep me alive until I am not locked onto anymore.

It has been said before in this thread, every little bit helps.
