Well, aside from the fact that you are assuming that's a guy in the cockpit.....
It's standard proceedure to do that when starting up military aircraft, as you are testing both that the control surfaces aren't locked up and that the controller itself is free to move. It doesn't benefit either the plane or the pilot if they find out the controller won't allow a climb just as they are coming up on the end of the runway

In MWO, this is just as true, as you want to ensure the controls are moving freely and that the system is reading it properly -before- you try to move that multi-ton slab of metal. Falling flat on your face (or your cockpit) is a bad way to react to an emergency combat situation, and -will- get you noticed by Regimental later on, especially if you were kind enough to crit your ammo in the process.

Well we all do it, some just pretend they don't and there the ones that do it more than the rest of us.
Also your making sure your mech works, it's simple and doesn't deserve a forum thread.

Steel Battalion controller. HackNFly wrote a Win7 driver and we came up with a pretty good profile for MWO.

There is an XP driver too, but I am not updating the profile anymore (no longer have XP installed).
