One thing I would like to see to further differentiate mechs, aside from the current engine and hardpoint limitations, would be mech specific effects. These could be incorporated into modules, master level unlocks, or just factored into the mech from the start. It makes sense that each mech is designed for a certain purpose and that it might have systems installed that help in excel at that purpose.

For example:
The AC-20 is currently pretty fragile, but a Hunchback effect that gives autocannons more health could help ensure a few more pilots use Hunchbacks with large ACs, instead of small ACs or Gauss rifles. It would make sense that the hunch on the shoulder should be of some benefit to the cannon housed within.

OR

A Catapult is designed as a long range support mech and an effect that decreases the time needed for LRM lock could help it slightly outperform mechs with LRM that weren't designed as long range support mechs.

The possibilities are endless, and while such a system would direct builds and play to an extent, it could also serve to make niche tactics viable with the right mech and would further enhance the idea of role warfare.

This has been suggested before. I love the idea. What we need now is a comprehensive list of variant bonuses.

Oh, and the bonuses should be something you unlock with MXP per variant.
