Will An Xl Engine Of The Same Rating Give The Same Speed?

Example: my death knell has a 175 engine in it. If I go XL 175 to save weight, will I keep my same speed?

Yes. You can see this by adding the engine in the mechlab without saving your configuration. Note how the speed doesn't change.
The only things that change from adding an XL engine is the amount of crit space taken up in the side torsos, the easier deaths by losing a side torso, and the decrease in weight.
And if they ever bring back repair costs, they will increase your repair bill.
