In the media Loki is often presented as the bad guys, the bogymen that come with black masks in the middle of the night. Loki does have a fearsome reputation, but that reputation should only be of concern for the enemies of our great nation. The truth is that the agents of Loki are selfless protectors of the Lyran people who subordinate their own ambitions to the needs of house Steiner. To put it more simply the women and men of Loki are the good guys.

A Loki operative is the one who slips on to a hostile world, armed with little more than his wits, the week before you and your regiment arrive to disable the early warning system. Giving you a clear window for orbital drop. Loki strike teams are the ones destroying enemy ammo dumps ahead of you planetary invasion. It is Loki black ops teams that ghost their way into house Liao or Draconis Combine R&D labs to bring you the latest equipment. It is a Loki agent that selflessly gives up her life to detonate car bomb in a separatist cell’s base the night before those separatists planed on driving that bomb through the front wall of your favorite bar during happy hour. It is a Loki agent who carries out the assassination of those rabble rousers leading the masses astray with talk of reducing military spending that would leave us defenseless before our enemies.

All of these actions require sacrifice and fierce devotion to the higher good. That is what Loki is. That is why no true citizen of the Lyran nation should fear Loki. But, if you are an enemy of House Steiner you should be afraid. You should be looking over your shoulder and you should be jumping at every shadow. Because in the middle of one of these nights you will wake up in terror and the last thing you will see will be the black masks of Loki.

OK. Out of character I just felt that Loki needed some PR help given the poll results in the training thread.

Also I would love to see a Heimdall rebuttal. I also think that covert affiliation could provide for some interesting game play if the Devs get around to it at some point. You could have black ops attacks against “allies”, houses that don’t have direct borders, and even other members of the same house. Just something to put out there for a couple of years down the road when we are all tired of trouncing clanners and the nearby houses.

Might want to add a link in case someone was thinking Avengers or clan tech.

Loki (named after the Nordic god of lies) essentially is a state-sponsored terrorist unit. Their task is not only to assassinate and sabotage enemies of the state, but also to strike fear into the hearts of the foreign enemies of the Lyran Commonwealth. The over-the-top brutality of Loki-agents is infamous throughout the whole Inner Sphere.

Heimdall is an unofficial department and in some ways a internal affairs safety valve. Formed by LIC-agents who considered themselves patriotic Lyrans. Unwilling to accept the massive collateral damage that often resulted from Loki-operations they sabotage those that they deemed to be going to far. They are the "watchdog" of the Lyran peoples.

From the title, I thought this thread was about the cool looking but lightly armoured clan mech.

Loki has much in common with modern day Israeli (state terrorists/secret service) Mossad.

I've always loved Loki. Though I was right at home on St. Ives Compact back at btech 3056, Steiner is a close second, particularly in earlier years. Loki can count me in. :-)
