Oh just had this great idea for community warfare.

In Battletech, each house has mech factories that produce their own brand mech, just like toyota produces the prius, and ford makes trucks, etc.

What I propose is this, as long as the faction controls it's specific mech's factory, repairs for players under that faction with the same type as mech as the controlled factory should be free like we are now.

HOWEVER, if a player is using a mech outside the faction factory's production, such as a davion players using a liao mech, then that player must pay for repairs such as was in the past.

Say that factory is lost to another house and faction no longer has any factories corresponding to that type of mech, then the player must pay for repairs as if the factory were outside their faction production.

Likewise if a faction gains control of another factory, then repairs for that factory's mech should become free.

Ammo can also be broken down this way as well due to the high demand. A faction may not have many mech factories, but have many types of ammo factories in order to counter balance.

This way in community warefare, mech factories, lrm ammunition factories, srms ammunition factories, Auto cannon 2- 20 and special type factories, endo steel factories, ferro fiberous armor factories, XL engine, and standard engine factories, etc, will become things to battle over.

Factions will use more of their specific flavor of mechs, in order to reduce repair cost, and things will reflect the battletech universe with factions using their own faction's mechs, and not just the "best" mechs.

Best of all economics will reflect war, such as is the way the real world works.

The other thing I would suggest would be to break down trial mechs to their specific factions, to really give it the battletech flavor.

Seems overly complex and unnecessary?

Seems like a cool idea. It would definitely help to keep me motivated to play. I wouldn't have [Item X] be free by virtue of controlling industrial [building X]. Maybe just a whole lot cheaper than normal.

Just look to MW:LL for something a bit easier to fathom in a game. Huge 8x8 KM maps, matches that are over an hour long, Mech Hangers with ammunition supply and repair, base capture locations that look and feel like actual objectives (like factories) to fight over, automated base defense turrets, etc.
