At inflated prices and only per mech type?
Not very happy about this as it's not really owning it. Because how many variants do you have that you repaint more than once? I have a jenner, I have a spider, I have a hunchback, and 3 ravens. So to paint my jenner and own the camo - oh wait. let me stop right there. If I paint my jenner and pay MC to own it. I can't put that paint or camo pattern on my one spider? But... what?? That doesn't make any sense, and to own the camo you need to pay triple what the cost used to be.
I was so ready to give all my money to PGI. I honestly haven't really seen a change, except that my one-time purchases will cost a lot less. I was really looking forward to owning them. Oh well...
In blacklight retrubution I can pay $5.00 to get 500zen points. To paint my gun it costs 200-250. I own that paint colour now. I can colour w/e gun i want as many times as i want. It's not limited to painting only my assault rifles blue, and i need to buy the colour again to paint my SMG blue. $5.00 and I can paint all my weapons two colours. That's collecting. I almost own all the colours.
MWO camo? Pay.. HOW MUCH? 1250MC($6.95) to own a camo that I can only paint ONE TYPE OF MECH WITH?!
DAFUQ.

I went back and added it all up and i've spent: 750 MC on camo upgrades.
I'm very happy with the changes, I own triples of lots of things, Spider, Centurion and so buying one camo pattern for all of them is a great saver, or buying one color scheme is exceptionally nice.
What it means is we are going to see a lot more "unification" of clans, factions and player groups and they will Represent.

You're not required to pay that price, you know. You could opt for the single-use version which works exactly like camo does now, and it's the same price it is now, too!
The game may be free to play, but this is hardly a labor of charity. I'm perfectly fine with custom paint jobs (that are merely vanity items and completely unnecessary to enjoy the game) being a tad pricey.
Besides, it's only the patterns that are expensive. Colors are cheap, permanent, and universal! You can still make really cool designs using colors only.

Actually, looking at the camo spec phase 2 thread and the screenshots in it, single use patterns will be considerably cheaper than they currently are:
- Standard (e.g. Dazzle) - 75 MC for single use (currently 250 MC)
- Premium (e.g. Phranken) - 125 MC for single use (currently 750 MC)
The colours, on the other hand, seem to be fairly expensive - 500 MC (Standard) and 1000 MC (Premium) each. It's a bit hard to compare to the current model without knowing which colours fall into which categories, but currently colours cost either 125 MC (all premium colours except black and white) or 250 MC (black and white)... The fact that you unlock them permanently/universally softens this blow.
If you want to give all your mechs an MC-based colour scheme (all 3 colours cost MC), the new version becomes cheaper than the old system once you paint your 5th mech - After painting 4 mechs you'll have spend the same amount of MC buying 12 colours (4x3) at the old cost compared to unlocking 3 colours at the new cost.
All in all, for people like me who are only likely to paint their mechs once and like to give them the same colours, it's likely to work out cheaper.

The colors are understandable though, since they're yours forever and ever until the inevitable heat death of the universe, no matter how many different 'mechs you apply it to.

I would imagine most people will just go buy 3 of their favorite MC colors and use it on all their mechs. Any other colors they will buy will probalby PC Gamer color and C-Bill colors.

Maybe read better? It states right there on their official post, 'MC' not a mention once of C-bills.
Case Closed.

how many different cbill colours did you use? because cbill colours are now unlocked for 1.25 mil, so it'll probably only cost you about, what, 6.25 million to buy the 5 basic cbill colours of old (but they are adding lots of new colours apparently)
and on the plus side, painting any new mechs after that point will be free
people were very vocal about wanting unlockable colours - this is the fall out from that
I think it's a decent credit to PGI that they are refunding MC purchases at least
but... this is pretty much exactly what I didn't want
I was happy having spent 125MC on 1 colour for 1 mech, and now if I want that colour back I have to spend 500MC
