I mean no disrespect here, sir.
But just because you don't see a reason to restrict something, doesn't mean it will not be.
There could be any number of technical, gameplay balance, or just "Paul got a crooked hair and he's still pissed about the pink hunchback thing" reasons that could have a restriction for this in place that we just can't know about yet.
Maybe they WANT you to have to refit each time as a money sink. Or, as a hardware money sink (for instance, you can only swap that laser in and out 10 times before it is worn and must be replaced with a new one). Etc Etc ad infinitum.
I dont see why you would NEED more than one hunchback, for example. I also dont see how it would be a money sink more than once, unless you
have to sell weapons as they come off your mech. I mean, say i bought a stock Hunchback. Myself, I loathe (and i mean
loathe) ballistic weapons (aside from the Gauss Rifle because of its range) so say I wanted to swap the AC/20 for a GR, now yes, i would need to buy the GR, but why should I not be able to have the AC/20 sitting around my hanger? even the 3-5 tons of ammo that came with it? so then, say I dont like the GR on that mech, suppose i wanted to stick long range lasers on the arms and ditch the ballistic weapons all together, then i should still have the AC/20 in my hanger.
unless like i said they require you to sell things as you swap them.
so, aside from the convenience of not having to refit your mech for different environs, (which imo is kindof a laziness thing, really) there is no reason to keep two hunchbacks.
Also, in previous games you could save variants so that say "I'm dropping into an open desert. load up the long range variant" or "I'm dropping into a heavy urban battlefield. load up my short range weapons" thus negating the need for more than one mech. remember, this game should be all about "more with less" especially if the money for your mech is money you have earned. after all, if its "the company car" sure lol but if its your own custom road machine, your boss aint gonna pay for that new turbo.
