Been having discussions with many people about whether or not to run AMS on Light mechs.

Some people say no b/c it gives away your position and that you can easily out maneuver LRMs.

Others say it helps umbrella the team or could save your *** from those potential 1-3 LRMs that get through and hit.

Any objective information about this would be greatly appreciated :)

IMO you already answered it yourself.
There are pros and cons to it. And you already listed them.
So it's simply up to you and what you want to do on the battlefield.

For me:
If I want to sneak on and harrass missile boats: No AMS for me since it early shows me sneaking around which is against the basic of idea of sneaking.

If I run run a fast hit & run skirmisher I get AMS on it since I run away a lot.
If I run a dogfighter then no AMS since I need all tonnage for heatsinks and I am anyway constantly circling and running slalom through the enemy formation.
If I run a supporting light with GECM and TAG and am focussed on catteling my team then I take AMS to help to protect them.

But that is just me. Everybody will have his own tactics and experience, some will claim to have the ultimate answer why AMS is BS/OP. :)
