I think you are miss reading that a bit. 1000 for now, evaluate for the next few days, then maybe more invites.

If the beta testers don't topple the servers more get in, good for us outsiders. If they do topple the servers more fixes to the code behind the clients/servers which would too be good for us outsiders.

The only difference is how soon I get to pilot a giant friggen robot.

Apparently, once the invites started flowing, things went so smoothly they were able to do the first 1000 in one wave, instead of over the course of a week as they initially planned.

To me, this is a good thing.. means the kinks are worked out of the invite system, so now we just need the servers to not explode under the 1000 beta players... so the rest of us can get invites!
