I'm a little confused on how to upgrade my armor. I would like to buy Ferro Fibrous, but it says i have no more critical slots. Do I have to reduce my current armor and get the upgrade? Or do I need a certain Mech. My mech is the Atlas AS7-RS

Critical slots are the spaces when customizing your mech (each arm has 10 for example, excluding the 2 spaces for the shoulder and actuator) to have Ferro Firbrous it takes 14 of your total slots. If it doesn't have room you will have to take some stuff off if you still want it.

Critical slots are the empty slots where you place equipment.
Ferro Fibrous takes 14 criticals (which can be anywhere in your mech). Note that going for Endo steel (also 14 criticals) will give you more tonnage back than the Ferro.

So I would have to take off actual slots? Like where I keep my weapons? And if I do, do they have to be in the same body part?
Also, I think I'll go for Endo, but same problem.

Endo steel and ferro fibrous occupied slots will scatter around your mech, so no worrie. In order to make room and free 14 slots, you will have to remove actual equipment, or change it. For example you may drop a weapon occupying many slots to mount one that doesn't require as much room.
You may want to look for good Atlas builds around this forum and here: http://www.mechspecs...y.php?69-AS7-RS

Count the number of empty slots in your mech.
Keep in mind, once you've used Endo to give you extra free tons, you'll need more empty slots to spend that tonnage (unless you were going to use the weight savings for a larger engine)
Have a look at some build guides for ideas of tried and true RS builds.

Hihgly recommend not trying to put Ferro on an Atlas. You have a lot of tonnage to use and get very little advantage back out of it in exchange for a LOT of critical space. Endo steel is a MUCH better deal, giving you more tonnage back in exchange for the same number of crit slots, but most people don't even use that (I do). Ferro is really only useful at all for light and some medium mechs.

So I should make sure the total open slots is 14?
And I'll take your word for the armor. I'll be getting Endo Steel instead.

Also, if I leave the Engine Heat Sinks empty, do they count as slots?

No engine heat sink slots do not count as slots. If you have any extra heat sinks in other places on your mech you can put them in the engine to save the crit slots they would otherwise occupy.

Thanks for all the quick and amazing responses. This is the reason I love this game so much.
Fun gameplay, great competetive gameplay, and the forums are amazing.

Think of it like this:
If you need more weight so you can use heavier weapons or bigger engines, Endo-Steel is the better choice.
If you need more weight so you can have more armor, then use Ferro-Fiberous.
