hmm... maybe this is a solution to the pre vs pug problem. every member of a pre made counts as 1.5 pubs. would eliminate 4+4 sync drops, and even out the playing field a bit. would definately make 4 man drops more challenging and fun.

You mean they're not currently working on/testing changes to matchmaker? Bring me my pitchfork!!

Me and a friend were in a 2 VS 8 match once back in closed beta,we could of just logged out but that wouldn't have been any fun. Instead I just typed 'CHARGE" in all chat and we went down guns blazing.

Closest I can get to that was a 5 vs 8 a month or so back when two groups tried to sync dropped and ended up on either side. After disussion in global chat the pathetic 3 man group dropped on our side and the other side all bum rushed us. We fought our socks off and killed 5 of them before the last of us fell. That felt like a win tbh. Other than that never been down more than 2 and even that is rare.

I played probably 20 matches last night, and had 3 where our team dropped down at least one mech. A 7v8, a 6v8, and a 6v8 with one disconnect making it a 5v8. I think we won the 7v8 (other team might have had an AFK), but lost the others. Not sure why it seemed to be so prevalent last night -- it felt like a long time since I've had a drop where the MM started us down a mech prior to last night.

In all probability it wasn't the matchmaker it was a network issue. As far as I know the matchmaker creates two matched groups and then sends out the invites to join the match ... after that the matchmaker isn't involved anymore ... the match has been created on the server and the teams assigned. If players do not show up to the match due to a network issue then you play some number of players short and the server only waits a specific length of time for the connections to occur.
In this case, I would guess, that the network went out for a 4 man pre-made playing from one geographic location that was supposed to be in your group ... resulting in all 4 players failing to join the match and you having to play a 4v8.
More bad luck than bad coding ... and not the fault of the game builders unless you want them to redesign the entire model of how matches are formed from the ground up so that the server can go back to the matchmaker to request replacements for missing players ... this makes everyone wait longer and increases the odds that someone else might disconnect thus requiring another replacement. Overall, I think the design they have used is simpler and cleaner even if you can occasionally get lop-sided matches like the one you faced.

Most unexpected win I have had was a 5v8, conquest, we had taken out all but two very crippled heavies on their side, and were down pts, but our 1 armless light was able to out cap them in the last few minutes for a win that was under 5pts difference between the sides.
