This explains why the DK I double-gaussed in the CT lived. But boy, did he look surprised ;)

You can add just about every Mech in the game to the OP to be honest. It's not hard to pack enough firepower to blow up a Light.

Hell, my Jenner packs enough punch to one-shot other lights.

Great post.

For the past two nights I've been trying to help educate our light pilot brethren by typing in All Chat after popping one like a balloon:

"pro-tip: don't face charge an 80+ damage alpha strike Assault"

-----

What I'm seeing though is not all these glorious amazing light pilots "adapting" and "continuing to dominate" (as many light posters would have us believe) by changing their tactics and swerving and so on and so on. Nope.

What's I've been seeing is the number of lights in match plummeting.

Says volumes.

Add this to the list

2x ER/PPC + 1 Guass, 35 damage (Catapult and Cataphract)

2x Gauss + 1 ER/PPC, 40 damage Cataphract

Forum posters make up a pretty tiny portion of the player base. I've seen people from the forums in only a handful of games. I have no doubt that anyone who said on the forums that they'll keep playing a light, is still doing so.

There is a difference between "keep playing a light" and "continuing to dominate".

I have seen many light pilots braging how they will still totaly own and murder everyone in their line of sight once the netcode is fixed.
You can't really blame them, because this game never had a good netcode or a good hitdetection. Many of those boasters probably had no idea what would happen once they lose the netcode advantage, because they were so used to it (and maybe not even aware of the fact they had it all the time).

This doesn't mean that there are no good light pilots out there which will still be a valuable asset to their team. I just think their number is smaller than it was always claimed on this forum.

Getting tired of lagshielded lights is understandable. Better hit registration = good. Not sure why all the glee and assumption of lameness in pilots who picked up mechs in 1/4 of the available weightclasses. They weren't playing wrong while you were playing man-mode, get over yourself.

We will see where the power curve goes next. I had gotten tired of LRM spam, that's mostly gone. I got tired of immortal lights, that is mostly gone. Now we'll see how long it takes for me to get tired of stacked PPC/gauss sniper builds with the occasional stacked SRM6/LLs.

Hit registration is wonder. I was actually able to hit Lights last night in my Cicada. Using a PPC before was highly frustrating. It still isn't easy when you're moving at 135kph in one direction and your target is going in the other. But at least I know that I can hit and when I do that they take damage.

This is true, but the same applies to any class of mechs.

The average player one runs into in any mech is usually not very good.

I posted this in another thread.... but it applies here as well......

The funny part is, as a Commando Pilot, the patch has nearly doubled my average damage and effectiveness.
Unfortunately, living in Washington, I was close enough to the servers, that combined with being on a cable modem, I never got my promised lagshield.
Instead, I got things like the following. While attempting to run to the right of a building, and put it in between me and Mr. Atlas..... I would suddenly stop... then go... then hop back..... then impact the building.... and then hop to the left of said building..... then face some random direction while stopped.... and then re-appear at my start point minus all armor..... and then MR. Atlas gets to hit me......

i also loved the weapons that routinely went through terrain to hit me, because the HEAVY mech firing, lagged, but tagged.... and suddenly, I receive random damage..... which, if I had received it when I was supposed to, would have changed the tactics I was using.
And that doesn't count the times where I suddenly make a 90 degree turn into enemy crossfire without touching a single key.... or just teleport to some random location on the field.....

This fix helps lights as much as it helps everyone else. Trust me, dealing with the above, and then being criticized for taking a mech you enjoy, because someone else made up a term "lagshield" made things less than fun for a while.....

Just for fun I decided to run a couple of matches in lights, 3 in a 4X and 3 in a 2D. I did get roasted once in my 4x. Thought I'd be clever and flank through the tunnel with but instead ran into two heavies and one assault coming out of the tunnel in forest. They came out of the tunnel in a tight flying V with the ECM atlas as the lead, I didn't see the danger until it was too late. 1 salvo from the atlas and 4srm6s from a catapult and my round ended quickly. Other than that, pretty much smooth sailing for me. Won all the matches in the 2D with 7 kills out of 3 matches and an average 375 damage. In the 4X averaged 200 damage and 5 kills...although this was skewed by one match where I had 4 kills and the other match which I was smeared along the cave wall with probably near 0 damage to my name. Lights espeically with streaks are probably still too strong. Oh, I only PUG btw.
