Ecm has really changed the way battles are fought and won, but i look at it like this, ecm creates a bubble centering around the mech that carries it and expands to a set range.

please bear with me........

Ecm requires energy of some description, and that energy can only sustain a linear source, what i mean by this is that the more power you put into an ecm unit the bigger the bubble, but, the further away from the ecm unit itself the weaker the signal should be unless it has a physical carrier to maintain its full strength at the end of the physical carrier (cable or wire something like that). So to have an absolute cut off point with the current ecm unit doesnt seem quite right, would it require too much extra coding to make it so that the closer to the ecm unit you are the stronger the effect of ecm and the further away from the ecm unit the less effective it becomes?

I think that incrementing this effect would make the ecm unit behave in its true nature, by being very close to a hostile mech regardless of it's load out will just about make that mech useless..

if its loaded with lrm or streaks then an electrical target lock is impossible but a visual line of sight lock is governed by the positioning of the cross hairs, with lasers the range and strength of the laser should be effected and make them behave erratically. The sensors should also be effected very much like they are now, the effect that is currently in place is awesome .
If the ecm unit is constantly on then it should really generate heat and of course the longer it is on the more heat it will generate and eventually it will auto shutdown for x period of time, so actually using the system becomes a skill, knowing when to activate it and for how long makes the unit a tool for players to master.

Would it also be fare to suggest that an ecm module can be deployed on the battlefield and be activated in the same way a mine is detonated, there should be a (x time) delay before it can be triggered and there should be a (x time) max duration, i think that this deployable unit will make for excellent ambushes and yet again change the way a battle is fought and won.

While I like the idea of mines, I do not like the idea of dropping my ECM unit on the ground. Its a very delicate machine. Also, Support this thread if you want passive radar.
