Both the A1 and C4 are fun mechs, but they take quite a bit of skill to drive successfuly, most off all restraint as they are hard hitters but quite vulnerable (due to their XL engines)
Im currently using the C4 although I did have the A1, however the C4 is more versatile and really a beast. I rarely do less than 500 damage and that is on a crappy match. This is the build I use:
MediumPulse x2
4xSRM6 /w Artemis 5 tons of ammo
Engine XL300
15x DHS
Max armor, except 3 points off in each leg.
Dump the jump jets.
This is basically a surprise hit and run mech, its very fast and is relatively easy to to control with regards to heat management. You could upgrade to Endosteel to squeeze in another DHS, but even though you will have the weight you will be left without space for anything else really.
Tactics: Stick with the second line mechs or follow your assaults at a respectable distance. Never rush to the first line or be the first to engage the enemy. Watch your radar (very important) and use your considerable speed to help wherever help is needed most. Stick close to cover, more often than not you will surprise the enemy who is already engaged with other friendlies get off one or two alphas and retreat, circle, rinse and repeat. This mech is also great for taking out lone stragglers dont be afraid to engage and pursue in those circumstances. Its a fun mech, and you will be the darling of PUG matches...
