Basically i was thinking like this, since i love SSRMs with some long range support:

A1: 5xSSRM and 1xLRM15 or 20 for range

C4:
1st variant:4xSSRM and 1xLarge laser for more range or 2xMedium lasers...
2nd variant: 3xSSRM, 1xLRM15 or 20 and 2xMedium lasers or 1xLarge laser...

Which of those you think would work best? Which you think would have best heat efficiency? Im going for DHS and Endo also. Do you think 2x lasers are better to have than SSRMs? Are lasers worth the lack of LRMs? If you have 2 slots for energy, what is best to put there? 1Large laser or 2Mediums? Maybe pulse laser(s)?

Thanks

A1 can be devistating. 6Srm 6 is something to be feared. but catapults ears are easy targets, and losing 1 is 1/2 your guns. losing both is being neutered.

i much prefer the C4 for anything that you might use the A1 for. Personally.
4srm 6, and 2 M las
4SSRM2, and 2 M pulse
2Lrm 15, 2lrm5 and ERLL
1lrm 15, 3 SSrm2, 2 m las

until you kill me i will shoot you.
if you have ECM, i can still hurt you.

Agreed. The A1 can generally do more damage but once you lose your ears your done for. Whereas the C4 has the centre torso energy slots.

Here's a C4 that might fit your style.

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...44671dd85eb3e5d

If you want you can dump the Jump Jets and go up to a STD 290 engine or switch out the LRM 10's for LRM 15's. Some people use XL engines if their Caddies, but I can't tell you if that's a good idea or not since I haven't tried it.

You could also drop the Med Pulse down to a regular Medium if you find you need more ammo and/or your running too hot. The Tag can also be swapped for a Medium Laser, but I'd suggest trying it out first. Or you could drop both and throw in a Large Laser if you like that better.

I bought an A1 and don't care for it much, so unless you wanna run a Streakcat(ssrm) or Splatapult(srm) I would avoid it. People love blowing the ears off A1's.

Both the A1 and C4 are fun mechs, but they take quite a bit of skill to drive successfuly, most off all restraint as they are hard hitters but quite vulnerable (due to their XL engines)

Im currently using the C4 although I did have the A1, however the C4 is more versatile and really a beast. I rarely do less than 500 damage and that is on a crappy match. This is the build I use:

MediumPulse x2
4xSRM6 /w Artemis 5 tons of ammo
Engine XL300
15x DHS
Max armor, except 3 points off in each leg.
Dump the jump jets.

This is basically a surprise hit and run mech, its very fast and is relatively easy to to control with regards to heat management. You could upgrade to Endosteel to squeeze in another DHS, but even though you will have the weight you will be left without space for anything else really.

Tactics: Stick with the second line mechs or follow your assaults at a respectable distance. Never rush to the first line or be the first to engage the enemy. Watch your radar (very important) and use your considerable speed to help wherever help is needed most. Stick close to cover, more often than not you will surprise the enemy who is already engaged with other friendlies get off one or two alphas and retreat, circle, rinse and repeat. This mech is also great for taking out lone stragglers dont be afraid to engage and pursue in those circumstances. Its a fun mech, and you will be the darling of PUG matches...

OK guys thanks for all the help. Still undecided. First of all, im SURE ill equip SSRM as much as possible, BUT i want one weapon for range, that would be one LRM for A1 and Large laser for C4. Now heres the tricky part: On C4, if i equip 4xSSRMs and 2xMed laser, im screwed for long range attack. I could drop one SSRM and equip LRM15 (if it would fit?), that would cover all ranges, but then i would only have only 3 SSRMs. Are 3 SSRMS enough? Also, even large laser has range of only 450M.

I like hearing of A1 more currently because even if i equip 4 SSRMs, hell even 5, i STILL can equip one LRM 15. And again, i have covered short and long range.
Also, i understand what youre all saying, i agree it would suck to loose an ear and be gimped so hard. And also if i run out of ammo, i still have laser to shoot on C4. But lasers are kinda meh dont you think? High heat, harder to hit target then SSRMS...

Any other advice?

Oh and also what i just noticed: A1 has 384 armor while C4 has 320. Is that something big to be worried abaut on C4?

@HeavyG:

#2 Check your mails. :D

I also recommend the C4 but keep in mind you'll prob end up buying both if you want to master the chassis!
I love the flexibility of the C4 - running mine now with 2 med pulse laser, LRM15+20.

I've got the other three variants already, but I'm thinking I might get the C4 to round out my collection. I've been toying with loadouts, and I'd probably pick this build.

For you though, it sounds like a build like this would be more appropriate: http://mwo.smurfy-ne...eaed6fafdad9973. You've got three streaks, backed up by a MPL, and most importantly TAG. Honestly, ECM isn't that much of a problem, but it's nice to be able to counter it on your own, especially if you don't have dumbfire missiles. For long range work, you've got the LRM20+Artemis. The spread on Catapult fired missiles is comparatively huge, so you're really going to want that extra accuracy. The jump jets and 315XL engine are going to increase your mobility, which is always good.

For comparison, this is my A1 build: http://mwo.smurfy-ne...3ed3da3a685ce8d. It performs very nicely at all ranges, and it's especially beautiful if you can get into that 180-270m range where you can let loose a giant volley of guided missiles all at once. You'll have to play smart to avoid the occasional ECM though.

A1 with 6 SRM6. streaks are viable if you team up with a ECM something... and still, SRM are way better but needs aiming skills.
