B is for map children.
on a more serious point we need something to distinguish the capture points in game. just listing their distance and location isn't enough. imagine if you never got any targetting information about enemy mechs. how would you be able to tell where to go and who to fight? this isn't quite as drastic but it is an important point.

They could just use the first (uh, Roman alpabet?) character from the word, as they're all unique anyway. The point of Alpha, Bravo, Delta, ect. is to make you more clear over crappy radio reception, but text doesn't really need that.
people can learn!

Currently noobs don't know where waypoints are without pausing game to go to map; this simple change would allow you to call an assist on Epsilon and anyone who looked for the ε would easily find it.
The less I have to look away from the action the better and this change would enable a newbie on a map to still navigate to called out waypoints just by using the compass/nav bar without pausing.

Actually PGI would serve an educational kind of gift to one or an other here by doing this^^
I fully support the OP.

I can hear it now, "Whadda ya' mean get off Sigma, I'm on Epsilon!"
Not that I'm against the idea, its great; I just think they might as well use Latin-origin characters that more people will recognize.

I was thinking the same thing. Given the amount of stupid things people do in game, I doubt many of them know what letter sigma looks like.
