Sort of a spin-off from another thread suggesting that hero mechs should be more powerful. Personally, I think anything resembling P2W should be avoided, but wouldn't mind their being more unique, but still balanced, purchasable mechs. Curious to know what others think, as well as how many people have actually purchased a hero variant.

Hero Mechs, And Incentive To Buy Vs Avoiding P2W

I own four, wont buy the Fang. I really like them not only for the looks but they are unique while not being overpowered. I dont have to feel cheap when doing good in them.
When it comes down to it the 4 variants are those that i play almost exlusively while having 23 mastered and fully fitted mechs. I even set myself goals for each but might not make it if they keep releasing good variants at this pace

A lot of new players are going to be turned off by how expensive they are once you convert the real cash price to MC. Having said that I'm not expecting any new players to drop any cash, I wouldn't on any game unless I had already played it and loved it.

Here is what I have advocated from the start;
you can go two ways ;
A; unique hardpoint hero mechs with greatly increased C-Bill cost if you don't want to buy with MC, IE; 5x or 10x the C-Bill cost, and you get none of the bonuses (C-Bill boost, custom skin, etc) associated with it. Basically, just the combat capability of the chassis. This keeps it fair for everyone because everyone can earn the same loadouts. I prefer this method because it allows unique hardpoint hero mechs which diversify gameplay without putting combat affecting loadouts behind a paywall while still providing strong incentive for people to pay MC, and therefore PGI gets paid.
B; no unique hardpoint hero mechs, but they can only be acquired by MC, in this way you are strictly paying for a CBill bonus and a unique skin. This means there HAS to be a variant with the same exact layout and factors like actuators, turning speed, engine size etc capable of matching it and that seems a bit restrictive, but it could be workable if introduced in the right way.
either way, in ever poll I've conducted or witnessed, people site the C-Bill bonus to be the primary reason for buying the hero mechs, so realistically as far as the end-game is concerned they could just let you apply a C-Bill bonus to any mech you want and make just as much money without risking gameplay.
Anything less, and I consider the game to be pay to win and refuse to fund the game.

Mechs in general cost way too much in this game. So far the only thing I dont regret buying with MC is mech bays.

I own a YLW and a DK. For the outrageous price of a hero mech, I think it's a pretty reasonable expectation for the variants not to suck. YLW needs just 1 missile hard point to make it much more viable, and the DK should have come with an XL195 and 4 MPL, and/or have been ECM capable (seriously, a light hero that doesn't have *the* essential light feature, ECM... what are they thinking?). And why isn't a mech bay included in the price?
And yes, canon be damned. For real money I want a mech that isn't obviously outclassed by a stock variant. But hey, the paint jobs are nice.

Yeah that bothers me as well. You should get a free mechbay when you buy a hero mech.
