What is it with people firing into team mates backs (pugs) at the start of the match? seems to happen all to frequently. Couple of times I've had somebody alfa-strike me in the back within a few seconds of the match starting.

When i quizzed one person who did it, they said "sorry, was testing my alfa strike heat build up". I wasn't very happy but at least they replied, most just don't say anything.

I know it's only a game but it's frigging annoying at how frequent it happens.

Wish they would implement a severe points penalty for damaging a friendly within x amount of time of game start (say 5-10 seconds) or teammates can't damage another teammate within that period.

Different maps have different ambient temperatures, so unless people have memorised the heat on each map some people will need to test.

Rarely do they aim at people...

Yeah well I wish they would wait until the teams spread out a bit more.

And they wish you'd wait until they test their alpha before running into their firing line.

2 sides to every discussion.

Even if you know the heat buildup on specific maps it's useful to confirm it before you get into combat, I do it all the time. Of course I aim away from friendlies while doing it. It also helps to show the team what kind of weapons you have so no-one will try to get a sniper to move into brawling range or something.

If you shoot it's your responsibility to make sure you don't hit your teammates, we can't read your mind so we don't know you intend to alpha at the start of the match.

I hadn't even moved, the map had just started. At least turn the mech away from the group before testing. Being troll baited?

I don't shoot people in the back, if I test my weapons I do it aiming as high up in the air as possible. The only way I would hit one is if something like an Atlas tried to hug me while I did it.

And no, it's not just the shooters responsibility. People who run into friendly fire are just as much to blame (I do this myself often when chasing people, I run into friendly fire and it's entirely my fault).

FYI the person shooting and you do not have 0 ping. As a result you do not always see the same hits.

If you did that to me after my screen told me I didn't hit you then I would consider you the aggressor and may fire back.

i thougt it was obvius put aperently not. You see ppl bind there fire button to E and Q. At the start of the match they just miss W and press E. Because your mouse makes up of two or three fire groups the E and Q often is alpha stike or somthing else.

We are talking about shooting teammates at the start of the match here, you are not fighting an enemy, you are testing your weapons and if you hit a teammate while doing so it's entirely your fault.

It's funny though how I've often seen that the people that need to 'test their alpha strike heat build-up' seem to be totally inefficient in actually keeping themselves from overheating later on during the match, with this nugget of information they gathered. :)

Agreed, its bad player who fires their weapons straight ahead at the very start of the match when u know for a fact a teammate mech is standing directly in front of you, simple.

And binding alfa-strike on your keyboard next to your walk forward/back/left/right is also stupid imo and no excuse.

False, it's still the fault of whoever fired as well as whoever ran into the fire.

Yes, if I sit there, aim at your face, and then click it's entirely my fault. But I have yet to see that happen a single time.

When Round starts and you hear singel Shot and you turn around and only the guy in your back has heat its as simpel as that.

But that happend maybe 10 Times in 2000 matches and i only kick back when im sure as hell that he is the Moron who fired.

When you mess up like that ....at least have the balls to say "Sorry i F...ked up" But when you kick someone in the back and

just walk off there are only 2 explenations. 1 You did it on purpose 2 You are an .......... enter insult of you choise!

You mean you can't tell that there's a friendly mech under your crosshair unless you're actually aiming for it? That's sad.

What are you driveling on about?

1. I fire lasers
2. lasers remain turned on for 1 second
3. someone runs into my lasers

In the above example I fired at no one, someone ran into the lasers. Nothing was under the crosshairs.

:edit:

In the above example I do not blame the person running into fire for everything, but nor do I excuse him. Both are partly to blame.

We are not taking about the heat of battle, of course friendly fire happens then, sometimes unavoidable. We are talking about 1 to 5 seconds into the match start.

Do you not move in the first 5 seconds then?

If not then I fail to see the problem, unless the problem is that people specifically aim at you?

My example was not the heat of battle. It was a Stalker firing as soon as he's able and a Jenner running at full speed through his laser to head towards something to the side (say one of the tunnels which is not in the direction which you face when you spawn).

It was in the first 5 seconds, as specified in the OP.

So a Jenner is running full speed past you just as you alpha strike, and you think he could stop in time to not get hit by your lasers? Maybe you should check the minimap so you know where people are going before you shoot?

Where did I say I thought he could stop?

Minimap is useless at the start of the game because at that point NOBODY IS MOVING!
