I was just in a match where one of my team mates alpha struck me in my back, then alpha struck me one or two more times and blew me up. Then he laughed in the all chat.
I think people should have to pay for team damage. It should be subtracted from their money at the end of the match. Should paying for repairs come back into the game, they should have to pay the full price of repairs for the damage they caused.
Of course, this wouldn't be a perfect system for trolls, because accounts are free so they could run up a debt and then quit the account. Still, if they went into the negatives for the match, it would slow them down a bit as they'd have to keep creating new accounts to try and do the sort of thing more than once.
I like having friendly fire on. I even sometimes accidentally hit team mates. I've even had team mates walk into my fire. I think I even once blew up a team mate who walked into my alpha strike while I was fighting for my life/mech. I'm always careful to not intentionally damage team mates though, and I think this game will go down hill very fast if people start trolling by alpha striking their team mates to death at the start of matches.

So...you're mad the someone alpha striked you in the back....but you've done it too...
you do realize that you'd be punished too.

Accidents happen, but it's the people that intentionally try to kill you.
For a while I'd always run off from my main group to scout. But only part of the reason was to scout, if you know what I mean.

@OP however, quoting myself from another thread regarding FF:

most friendly fire comes from people running into the line of fire of their teammates.
It happens to me, too. Sometimes i just accidently walk into someone's line of fire, while he is shooting, be it because i didn't pay attention or be it because i slided down that hill as if my mech hasn't legs but inline skates.
I would not want those people to be punished because i made the misstake.
Or another example from the other point of view.
I was piloting an atlas, 2x LBX-10, 3xSRM6, 2 Medium Lasers.
I was fighting an Awesome that overheated in front of me, maybe 80 meters away, i let my own mech cool down a bit and line up the shot, then press my Alpha Strike button. Right at that moment a Dragon from my team decided to go for the kill and walked right in front of me and between the Awesome and me, guess who got my alpha in his back armor and died? Correct, the dragon and how should this be my fault? Sure, i could take a look left and right every time before i shoot, but... really?

did you actually read his post or just what you wanted to?
He said he got alpha struck in the back at the by his own teammate, then another 2 times by the same person, which killed the OP. The guy did not apologize for it but rather laughed at him in open chat. This does not strike me as it was an accident but rather a troll being an asshat just because he could.
If this was truly an accident he would have apologized or said nothing.

Yes I read the op, just as I've read hundreds of other threasds crying about teamfire. None of which have had any useful suggestions. The only way you could try to prevent teamkilling would be to add a huge cbill and xp penalty for even scratching a friendly mech, and an even larger penalty for killing a teammate. Because I have yet to see this magical software that can tell accidental shots apart from jackass troll shots.not in any game ever, that I have seen, unless you want to suggest that a mod is in every match spectating the players. Or have one of you invented such magical software already?

That is the best suggestion for this. People should be penalised for firing on friendlys, accident or not. It would encourage people to play safer and work as a team.
For fiendly fire it should be a certain ammount of cbills per % of damage, and for kills it should stay as it is now because you ALREADY DO HAVE TO PAY FOR TEAMKILLS. Which i think is great.
I know they arent the same, but most first person shooters penalise you for firing on friendlys.
One way to do it would be to damage the person firing on friendlies. People wouldnt be so quick to fire on a team mate if they knew it would harm them too.

I agree - charge people for FF damage. If it's a mistake, you won't be charged for much at all.
In nearly 1000 fights I've killed four friendly mechs. Three walked into my fire and my hit happened to be the last shot (one was at 100% and ate a headshot from dual AC20s though).
So if it happens, I'm not worried. I usually don't do ANY damage to friendlies and I'll end up better than some of the other players I've been playing with.
It will improve play and enforces a penalty for bad play. Most good games (think of any sport you like) have penalties for bad play and I think something like this is 'long due.'
If I accidentally hit someone and it costs me 10k cbills for grazing them with my ML, okay fine. Cap the penalty to 100% of what you can make that round (i.e. no negative cbill matches, zero is the lowest you can get).
It won't be 'punishing me' but will be like me jumping offsides and getting a penalty called. I think that's a good idea.

You should have a 20 dmg freebie cause its hard to avoid hitting friendly occasionally. Especially when the whole team is raking their lasers while a light mech dashes by. The cost for team damage increases by increments as you pass thresholds, say 40, 2x penalty when it hits 60 and so on. I also made a suggestion before where if you were TK'd you can decide whether to punish.
