If you are running TAG and spotting for friendly missile boats, and you have line of sight to a target but the LRMers don't, can they fire blind and have the missiles pick up the lock when they reach line of sight?

the LRMers will share the lock with the spotter, as long as the spotter maintains lock ® then the missiles will land true.

Even better since you are tagging them and have line of sight they can get the lock plus the benefits of the TAG. This of course assumes that neither you nor they are in an enemy ECM bubble. Which shuts both locks and TAGs down.

--- which shuts tags down --- IF you are within their 180m ECM disrupt and you aren't using counter on your ECM.

And tag's range is 750m. So tag them from further away.
And a nice perk for running tag...

Tag is a useful tool and glad to see perks implemented for using them.

No, you can't just fire blind - the missiles won't know whose TAG to lock on to. You have to press R and target the mech that is being TAGed. You can fire indirectly that way.

As above.

You cannot fire your missiles without a locked target, then while they are in the air get the lock and have them hit. It used to work this way in CB but not any more.

You can still fire with a locked target, then lose lock, and then when you regain lock the missiles will do a 90 degree turn or about face and hit your target.
This is handy if an enemy is charging you and allows you to hit them in the back or side.
Just fire, lose target, allow the missiles to pass them and get lock back and hit them square in the back with your 60-80 missiles.

That's a handy tip, I never thought to do that. Not an LRM guy myself, but that sounds like it would be fun to try once or twice.

To add to what Gregore said, this can be used to hit mechs that are hiding behind buildings sometimes.
Get a lock, fire, lose lock, wait for the LRMs to fly past the building, then re-acquire lock.

Even in normal usage, this break-lock technique is useful.

AFAIK, when you lose lock, the enemy no longer gets an "Incoming Missle" warning. This can be used to your advantage - deliberately lose lock, then gain it again when the missiles are so close that any warning they get will be useless.
