As a fairly new player, one of the biggest issues that is frustrating me at the moment is the number of AFKs and disconnects I am seeing.
I have logged on this evening for a few casual PUG games to relax before dinner.
In half a dozen matches, every single time I have been in a team with 6 or 7 effective players against 8.
It seems very common to step in to a game and immediately see someone on my side disconnect. This takes us down to 7 players.
On top of this, after I am destroyed I flick through my team as a spectator only to find someone is AFK.
What frustrated me the most was that at the final scoreboard, I had scored 157 XP and this guy has scored 100 - for doing nothing.
If you go in to a game and from the very start and realise you have little chance to win it strips a lot of the enjoyment from the game. If your DC or AFK is an Atlas then due to the way match making works you are royally screwed.
If you are on the other side of the fence it is not much better, I want a good close game - not a cheesy win against a team with a couple of men short.
I would suggest that there should be much sterner penalties for AFKs or DCs. Stern to the point of draconian.
It is not enough for people to just get a warning if they do it so often that a number of players report them. The system should detect this kind of behaviour and automatically apply penalties. Minus XP and CB for example. Or freeze them from joining any match with any mech for half an hour.
It p*issed me off so much I am going to log off for a bit and cool off.

Some people crash to desktop, others lose connection, get a black screen, get really poor performance.
Not so many do it purposely.
However if you notice a trend with a specific pilot, send a screenshot and details to mwomercs.com and they will investigate.

I'd like to see disconnected players, or players that have no activity (AFK), get awarded 0 XP or CB from the match. I realize people get disconnected, or have to run away from the computer during the match for various reasons and that is fine. They would be awarded nothing for that match, and continue playing and earning as normal. In this way, players that continually disconnect or AFK then would no longer have a reason to, as they would receive nothing for it, and this would have minimal impact to legitimate players.

That still can't prove they're doing it on purpose. Perhaps they live in a rural area with terrible internet. Thats not their fault or problem. perhaps They lagout because someone else just surfing webpages on another machine raises ping from 100 to 3000 and they desynch.

That would be too easy.

You know how cell phones with pin locks are often designed so that if you enter five wrong pins, you have to wait a minute to enter the next one? And then 5? And then ten? I think a penalty like that would be fine. You disconnect before the match starts or are AFK for a whole match? It's ok, it happens. You do it twice in a row, that usually doesn't happen, so hold the mech for an extra few minutes after the match. Have the penalties increase so that people who legitimately crash once and go back to playing never get penalized but the serial disconnectors (which I see all the time) get locked out.
