Until the UI 2.0 is in and its actually integrated, why not use video pop ups in the interim as the "tutorial"?

I think the bulk of the work is already done in the training video, but just cut it up into the parts that make sense when people go to that particular link.

Ex:

When you first log in, there's a video that points out the links for Mechlab, Social, whatever the other links were.

When you click into Mech lab, the mech lab video shows you the ins and out of it.

When you click on Social it shows you how to add friends, make a chat window, explain groups, how to set one up etc.

Have an area in the UI so people can revisit these videos at any time.

Don't forget to have an option to turn these damn things off permanently though :|
