Battle type: Planetary drop
To enter a planetary drop style battle you must select "Planetary drop" as it is not compatible with other formats - in a second you will see why.
Once you enable a planetary drop battle, you will be given three mech slots. Choose three of your operating mechs and place them in the boxes. When three working mechs are in the "planetary drop" box, your "launch" button will enable.
When the battle starts, you will be in one of the three mechs you placed in your "planetary drop" selection box, and that mech will be randomly chosen. You will fight in that mech until you die. You will then respawn in one of the other two mechs (also randomly) at the cap zone. If you lose all three mechs you become a spectator.
The battle can be 8v8, will have the two starting bases, plus ONE other base near the center. Same cap rules apply as in the current 5-base system, except the cap-win is raised to 1500 (and with 3 bases it will increment slower). The fight timer will be increased to 30 minutes (there's a lot more fighting to do!)
Existing maps will basically work - just take 2 bases off of each of the 5-base maps (usually the ones not in the center area. I originally thought I wanted a 'base-less' format, but when you factor for mechs hiding or refusing to ever engage it seemed there needed to be a long-game alternate win.
Also - scoring: same as before. You can rack up a lot of kills when you're seeing 3 from each player, but the game takes a lot longer to play as well.
Just my two cents.
Maybe later - when we can actually capture planets, a win in this format can 'mean something' too.
