Reading a few posts where it is suggested that the game
uses 1.4Gigs of video ram at 1920, I was wondering what would
be the optimal resolution for a 1GB card?

Also, using 2 cards in CrossFire will not double the memory, will it?

Thanks for any suggestions.

What card are you using?
As someone else recently posted: 1GB does not make a video card.

All I can suggest is to try different resolutions and use the one that you feel is the best looking while giving the FPS you want to have.

No, crossfire does not double your video memory. If you have two 1 gb cards, each card will only use 1 gb of video memory. It will not allow both cards to use the memory of both cards.

1.4gb at 1080P sounds about right, but it also depends on the other settings for the game. No Crossfire does not double the memory.

Pretty much this, the VRAM will limit the bells and whistles at higher resolutions but it's important to know what card you actually have.

I'm going to test MWO later today if I remember, as I seem to recall no slowdowns indicative of low from running my old 1gb 5850. Since MWO doesn't use traditional AA, that's a HUGE memory saver over many older games (post-process AA is very inexpensive).

My gut feeling is that MWO will only come close to exceeding 1GB at very high settings, specifically very high texture settings, which are the big memory hog (AFAIK, shader work, shadows, etc are hard on the GPU, but not memory). This comes back to knowing what GPU you actually have. "1GB" is not a video card; we need to know the model. Insofar as I've seen, however, that's sufficient memory to run the game at 1080P on mediumish settings.

A HD7750 should be able to run the game at 1920x1080 at medium settings.

Also, disable crossfire for now. It is not yet officialy implemented and can cause reduced performance if not disabled.

I believe there are some Crossfire profiles that have been discovered to work decently with MWO. Secrety World's profile was one, and I think Bioshock or Bioshock 2 was another. I don't see the thread anymore, so I don't exactly remember. If one isn't willing to play with those, then yeah, I agree with Egomane that it's best to just shut it off for now.

Well on max settings at 1080P, the most vram I was able to take up was 1150mb. On medium, it got up to 920mb. Medium without AA was 890mb. Those numbers are all plus or minus a bit, but 1GB should be adequate for medium, or a mix of medium and high (which I ran on a 1GB 5850 without issue).
