I was going to buy a second Mech yesterday, and I saw something odd...ALL the mechs I can buy require MC. There is no way to buy a new mech without spending real world money.

Is this deliberate? Do you get the first mech for "free" and have to pay real money for any future mechs?

I was under the impression that it would be a mix..."crappier" mechs could be bought with cbills only, and the better ones you might have to pay real money for.

(Doesn't really matter to me since I never intended to have a mech harem, but I am curious...most free-to-play models include free stuff mixed in with the pay stuff).

No, you can buy mechs with only C-bills. You'll need a few million C-bills to start.

All mechs except Hero Mechs can be bought with C-bills. They range from 1.8 million CB up to over 12 million, puls you wnt ot consdier XL engines and Double Heat Sinks for most mechs.

The first list is just hero mechs, look at the top rightish, and you will see the "HERO-L-M-H-A" buttons. Everything other than those 5 mechs can be bought with Cbills.

You can buy any non-hero mech with C-bills. In fact, anything that directly impacts gameplay can be bought with C-bills. The only things you have to use MC for are hero mechs and paint.

Go to the mechlab tab (top)
Click on 'owned mechs' (bottom left)
Click Add New Mech (empty mechbay slot)
Click Create New Mech (yellow button above empty selected mechbay slot)
Mech categories are at the upper right- first page is hero mechs, then light/medium/heavy/assault (this might be where you've gone wrong, and did not navigate to the other mech weight class pages!)
Select a mech weight class
Select a mech variant
Click orange 'buy CB' button

I reccomend investing in a HBK 4SP or HBK 4P, although you can save up your Cadet bonus (first 25 matches) to buy any mech chassis you want.

you also may wish to look at what mechs have which hardpoints, their max speed, and other factors here: http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/

I tried to do this last night. I looked at ALL mechs, hero, light, heavy, ect...

All of them had an MC requirement.I have about 8 million cbills at the moment...they appear "buyable", but if I click on them I see "not enough MC" in red letters, even though I have more than enough cbills for a given mech. This is true even on "standard" light mechs...I am not talking about hero mechs.

If I had proceeded with the purchase, would it still allow me to buy them? Is the MC just a way of buying mechs without using CBills? The way it looks on my screen you need to meet both (MC and CBill) requirements to buy the mech.

MC and CB are two totally separate currencies. You can buy any mech (except hero mechs) even if you have never bought MC.

Click the BUY CB button on the mech in the shop

Heh, I have already depleted my cadet bonus. It spoiled me. Now I have to crawl like everyone else.

I had already bought a hunchback, but you are right, I should have bought the 4P. I spectated a guy last night in a 4P with like 9 small lasers, and it was pretty cool. This is the one I currently have (not exact, but close) - http://mwo.smurfy-ne...cf5fc81e70e1d1d

Ok, I was confused then. In the display it looks like you need both.

It seems that by now you probably have gotten back into your game and are about to purchase a second mech. Don't forget to save up some additional CBills for upgrades and different weaponry though.

Good luck to you sir and I hope to see you on the battlefield.

Ahhh...I thought "Buy MC" was so you could immediately buy more MC to afford the mech. I misunderstood what the button meant.

You would be correct... The UI is not very informative, but it is functional.

If this is confusing you (it did) I strongly suggest opening a support ticket and calling it out. As it effects the initial user experience and their revenue they may get it fixed soon than later.. Even if they simply "box" each option more and add the word "with" between the Buy and MC/CB. ;)

And between the two buttons, put OR there in big letters.. so you can plainly see [buy with MC] OR [buy with cbills]

and some kind of tutorial about having to upgrade to endo or ferro _first_ to have enough room/slots/tonnage to work with, if your "guide" requires certain things. ... I got frustrated on my first account, after wasting several million cbills, and sold off the mech.. only to figure out how the interface works later after I started a different account (no point in wasting that cadet bonus  )

Of course, this is only beta.. but on a free to play game, that's near enough to "release" that many early adopters may find these problems too bothersome and will just find another game to play.
