To prevent boating in an very easy weay i suggest the following:
Each Mech shall not store more than 4 tons of Missiles and 4 tons of AC/Gauss/MG ammo.

Energy Weapon Alpha Strikes are allowed but do overheating damage similar to 125% heat.
Otherwise Energy Weapons are restricted to be used in pairs (or as single Wpn).

Have Fun!

I really do not see the issue with "boating". It's a logical optimization that any sane player would make to his/her mech. Why have a bunch of diseperate weapons with all different ranges, firing rates, velocities, etc when you can have a single weapon type that's reliable and works well with itself?

my catapult c4 has 2 weapon systems and this will thoroughly screw it over.

4x srm6
2x medium lasers

i have 6 tons of srm ammo. that means i get a total of 25 shots from my launchers. each ton is just slightly over 4 shots. i pay 16 tons and 12 slots for the launchers and artemis already.

bringing me down to 4 tons would be only 16 shots and some change.

boating should be solved by taking away the reason for boating example:
streak srm boating solved by ECM.

i would be perfectly fine with some scaling penalty for using large clusters of the same weapon.

don't take options away from players arbitrarily.
