Use this web site to try: HBR-PRIME

But not really; or at least, not well. Have to make extreme sacrifices to run 2 ERPPC, a Gauss Rifle, and carry a reasonable amount of ammo (3t). Not happening effectively while keeping ECM.

Now, Gauss+oodles of ER ML's, on the other hand is entirely doable. Maybe something like HBR-PRIME

Just rough looks for educational purposes, I haven't spent much time looking at Hellbringers as I don't have any at the moment.

Yes you can BARELY fit dual PPC Gauss on the Hellbringer but it's suicide. Too hot. Wintersdark's alternate Gauss build is one good option though I prefer putting it in the RT to move it up high for peeking over and around HBR-Prime.

I'm personally preferring a ERPPC build rather than Gauss on my HBR-Prime
I just had 4 kills with it

this is how you build it:

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...9e9b83a3a0103a5

..and it works great, ECM keeps you safe while cooling down and hides your weakly armored parts

..it is a perfect sniper and as such it requires somewhat conservative gameplay, avoid brawls.

..to me it is an evolution of my favorite medium sniper, the Treb-7k with GAUSS+ERPPPC

KDR is 2,45 after 40 games, leveling included

Would dropping to 1 ERPPC and adding HSs result in a higher DPS?

Yes, but that is not the point of this particular sniper. I wouldn't run it like that either, but I suppose it will work very well for some situations (not brawling) with high front-loaded pinpoint damage.

Incidentally, I'd suggest moving all Gauss ammo to the rifle location for improved resistance against critical hits; it will keep your rifle (and mech?) alive longer. It will also reduce the changes of a head shot death by avoiding critical damage transfer. :)

HBR-PRIME

When your heat builds up or in need of higher DPS in a pinch , just unlink the ERPPCs and use GAUSS + 1ERPPC, heat efficiency is then great in that case

Gauss ammo in head gives me a chance to soak an unfortunate head shot (i think it works that way).

With clan c.a.s.e. , no damage transfer to nearby components.

As for DPS builds, my other 2 HBRs are 6xMPL for short and 2xUAC5+4cERML for medium range.

It does exactly the opposite: all components you place as a player have a change to receive a critical hit and absorb the damage of the weapon that does the critical damage. Many players do not realize that critical hit damage always transfers 15% of the critical damage to the structure and thus adds bonus damage. This is how a twin Gauss shot to a fully armored head has a chance to kill you. You now have 8 head armor so any weapon with 8 damage can inflict critical damage. With 15 internal health, a weapon that does (15+8)/1.15=20D can headshot you. If you go to 9 points of armor on the head you cannot be head shot by an AC20 anymore with the ammo in your head (so go to 9 or loose the ammo :) ).

http://mwomercs.com/...-a-brief-guide/

For your Gauss riffle crit padding is a good thing because more slots filled with ammo mean the chances of the rifle getting hit are reduced; loosing ammo isn't so bad compared to an internal explosion. Yes, the damage is contained within the section (actually, due to a bug at the time of writing it is not, but it should), but I still prefer loosing the ammo over loosing half the XL engine. New features of loosing an XL engine with the next patch or two will make loosing your side torso worse.
