Just would like to know if there is any word or status as to what happened that has caused players in the north eastern US (Verizon users I believe) to have our pings shoot up as though we are playing from the other side of the globe. This has been an issue that has been mentioned on the forums since the Jan 15th patch and it seems that there is zero information as to what is being done about the problem. I have posted in the feedback section many times and I've also sent in a request to support only to have my request considered closed and be told "we are aware of the issue". Really? That's it? Something was changed or done during the Jan 15th patch and I can't understand why you are unable to go back and look at what was changed and determine what it is and fix it. Or at least let us know there is an issue and you are doing "X" to correct it.

This feeling of being in the dark all the time with regards to problems really leaves a bad taste.

I think there is something going on at a major switch that seems to be not dropping packets but getting loaded up and not shipping them fast as they should. I hit the same thing every now and again, great normal ping but when I get a heavy packet it will bog out for some reason.

My best estimate is that we are all getting the data through the same route and there's some sort of software glitch en route that slows everything down to check it over.

I am so happy to hear I am not the only one. I ran speedtests and saw what my ping should be (20-50), then I would go back to the game and find weapons not firing when I clicked them. My ping is at a steady 230 for MWO and it makes me a sad panda bear

I run 99% steady at 31-43ms, but at certain times (I would guess estimate during north american peak net hours) I get random lag spikes. This seems more due to local or switch traffic bogging things down than their servers though.

I have been having the same issues with ping. I went on this morning at 5am and my ping was around 50-80 (I have been trying to test at different times of day). At night that shoots up to almost 300 (absolutely unplayable and makes me want to rage quit). All through closed beta and up until very recently I was always right around 30 so something in the routing must have changed.

I dont't know if it is a netcode issue (more acknowledgement packets slowing things down?) but I would think that everyone would see a slowdown if that happened. It could be something as simple as a provider noticing more traffic coming to/going from PGI through their network and they set it to have a lower priority on their traffic settings. That way they can anger PGI's customers to pressure them to pay more money to make the traffic higher priority. It certainly has happened before with other game companies...

This doesn't have anything to do with this game. It's an internet provider problem.

although sometimes servers might be overloaded. what's primetime for this game?

Can you confirm anything on Verizon's end to rule this out?
I know there is no such thing as net neutrality here but still - this would be low even for them.

Is I am pretty sure exactly what is happening. Throttling at the switch.

I don't think that its throttling on Verizon's end. Its not quite 10am at the time of this post and I just had it happen again myself. I doubt this is NE peak hours for PGI traffic. I also notice it FAR more often when running around in my Cicada at 143kph. All of a sudden it starts warping around, delayed weapons firing (if they fire at all), my ping shoots through the roof and about 1/4 of the time I disconnect. I normally have a ping between 20-40, but it jumped anywhere from 80-250 in matches with this going on.

Last night I hit a spike of nearly 1500 lol. Was pretty awesome, so I'm going to have to hound my isp a bit.

I talked with Verizon last night and they didn't have much to say. The tech supposedly switched the channel I was on at the main hub and it did improve my latency slightly. Last night at peak time I was seeing my ping 130-140ish and although it still wasn't what I was getting prior to the Jan 15th patch it was at least an improvement. Today I rant a tracert to the game server IP from my work PC and got pings in the 50's. My work is less than a mile from my house so I'm pretty sure it is something on Verizon's end as my work does not have Verizon service. Looks like another call to tech support for me tonight.

I'm having latency issues as well, but some people still have normal pings so it's probably not the game servers.

my ping to amsterdam is a steady 22-24 ms, but amsterdam toronto is quite a bit of distance, I guess it's throttled somewhere in between if there's a lot of traffic, sometimes it's a steady 120ms, sometimes it's 130-140, sometimes it's all over the place 180-220-etc.

there's also people in NL that have 95 ping to the server. My provider must have a ****** overseas contract or something.

Charter is infamous for throttling my internet.

Have to do some runs to test, but the box my cable lines run in to split to my upstairs and downstairs was open since who knows when, thinking wind might be the cause of my spikes anyhow.

13.00 here in NL, now I have a steady 113-115ms.

not sure why it was so bad last night, something in between here and toronto didn't work out for me, saw other people from NL play without issue, 95ms ping. Do their providers have better contracts or something?

Kind of makes you see what Euro and (more so even) Australian players go through every single match doesnt it?

I hope this gets fixed for you. From what I read in some other game forums, it seems to be a Verizon thing, which pops up every now and then.

When it does get fixed... i hope you guys would be a bit more lenient aginst LRMs and SSRMs for being "noob" weapons... you kind of apreciate what you get when playing at <50 ms as opposed to 150-30ms being "unplayable" and find that lock on weapons at least guarantee that you can deal "some" damage instead of missing shots by miles even though your screen tells you that you are nearly always hitting bulls eye (including the damage animations).

If it's a bandwidth throttling issue can we get some reports back from you guys now that we've rolled into a new month?

Could also have been a weather issue, don't know how it's been in their local area but the weather's been fuxored for the past couple weeks here, and now that it's sort of settled and I've got that box closed (who knows right?) I seem to be running smoothly again.
