The hero mechs released thus far are hardly unbalanced or unfair. They gotta make money. I'm fine with them selling mechs at the prices they're selling them. Don't want to buy them? Don't... but don't be the douchebag that cries about it.
yeah pretty much. originally i was going to buy every hero mech, but they have been a very mixed bag so far and i'm not planning on buying any more unless they're actually good. i already have 3 variants of every class mastered, so it really would be extraneous to buy a hero mech at this point.
what i'd rather buy is the camo and apply it to my favorite variant.

"We all called it. It was pretty clear they are starting with what the community considers the weakest mechs in each weight class first.
Now looking at the picture I'm going to guess it's armament:
Head - Small Laser/Small Pulse Laser
Right Arm - PPC/ER PPC
Right Torso - LRM15 (maybe w/ Artemis)
Left Torso - Small Laser/Small Pulse Laser
Left Arm - ??? Can't see from the picture.
It might be given a second AMS to make make it different from the other Awesomes but it looks like it's chalking up to be a Hero version of the current trial Awesome AWS-8V. I do like the steer skull and chain camo."
Left arm looks like an SRM4.
Looks like a pretty mediocre loadout. I was hoping for something interesting like maybe a ballistics hardpoint where the PPC usually is, or an insane amount of either energy or missile hardpoints. I guess they'll give it DHS, Artemis, and either a normal XL or a larger-than-normal XL.

Its too bad that you can't overwrite the Hero mech paint jobs.

yeah that's what i think too. it's faster than the stock 9m, so i think it should be capable of having a 400 engine (xl of course)
basically i can see thsi thing being pretty good with
2LL (arm/torso)
2srm6 (torso)
srm4 (arm)
and then just running around like a hunchback SP. but it still suffers the same problem as the 9m, which is that you're trying to pretend you're a hunchback, but you're an assault and the other team gets an assault.

[bunch of points backing this idea up]
True! The Awesome was never a good brawler even on the TT. That's not its role. It's role is exactly as you described Kinilan. I take the trial Awesome out for a spin every once in a while and I fill a role of fire support for the brawling Atlases and Stalkers.
Now I have seen pilots make it into a brawler. Mostly a SL/ML beast with a maxed out XL engine, the bigger brother to the face melter (AKA Forum User Killer by Paul) HBK-4P I see from time to time. But brawling in the Awesome comes down to pilot skill and audacity. And it needs a healthy dose of both to work.

But the ugly stick was really worn down to a nub by mechwarrior tactics. Their captain america colorings trigger a gag reflex.

There's no such thing as a "Mechwarrior-ish style". Clans keep their mechs uniform and clean. IS pilots is "anything goes", from sheer military pragmatism to dress colors to extreme gaudiness (especially for mercs, solaris jocks, pirates and similar "free spirits"), up to and including nude ladies painted on the fuselage.
One very famous mech, Rhonda Snord's Highlander is known to be painted shocking pink, and playing Elvis. Just look at it.

Bottom line... yes, this one does look like a mech NASCAR ride from PGI stable (note the cow head). But it's all well within the game universe's specifications. You don't like it - okay. But it's still acceptable "lorewise".

Concerning the Large Laser, ER Large Laser, Large Pulse Laser, PPC and ERPPCs:
The Large Laser was pretty much on point where we wanted it in terms of heat generation. A proper scaling has been done to the rest of the mentioned weapons (i.e. they have all been reduced in terms of heat generated).
You will see these changes in the next patch on Feb 5th and the exact numbers will be in the patch notes.

Uh,
They already said they aren't following the Timeline 100% and we're in the year of the clans so it really doesn't matter, we're in the same general timeframe by just a few months.
They went even further back Than Adam MALACE.
i have just one bone to pick.

LOL! In fairness... personal taste aside, the fact remains it's a cartoony cosmetic like the aforementioned schemes...

BTW... For the folks that despise me... I look just like Sloth.
