So after today's news I thought I would go back to the drawing board and make some changes to my Jenners. One is a Harasser, and my the other 2 I would like turn into "scouts" - since thats what Light mechs are typically used for.

So here I am outfitting my Jenner D, and low and behold I forgot the BAP. But now that I have the sensor module at level 2, is it really worth losing 1.5 tons to gain so little. I mean most of my spotting these days is done on Thermal anyway.

So my question to you is: Who uses BAP in a non-ECM Light mech? What's the benefit? Has BAP now become the outdated tech?

Me. I don't run that Mech often but I do use it. BAP + the sensor range modules gives a good bonus to a team that communicates. Reading a targets info from 1200 meters gives your team extra time to adjust. Is that an SRM or LRM Cat on the flank? Is that group of assaults brawlers, snipers, LRM support, or a mix?

I run a BAP in my ECM Spider, along with an Adv. Sensor Module. Just as Cache said, it's priceless when you're playing with a team that coordinates - being able to leap into the air, spot mechs from the other side of the map and call out their location and configuration is a tremendous advantage for your team, even if it doesn't rack up any experience or CBills for yourself.

But would you use it in a non ECM scout?

The reason I ask, is cause I find my non ECM lights not very good "scouts"

I use BAP on mechs that have room for it, lowers my chances of getting hit by LRMs at long range. Also lets you dump LRMs the full 1km effective range.

I find my non ECM lights to be excellent fertilizer. It's restupidicutarded to even field them anymore against 3Ls and 2Ds.

Well, that depends on how you define the role of a scout. ECM Lights are excellent at infiltrating and getting up to that 180-meter mark without detection. However, you don't need ECM to spot mechs from over 1,000 meters away - missiles can't hit you from that range, and even the longest range weaponry might only leave a scratch. You're essentially untouchable until they close the distance.

You don't need a light mech to do that. Any assault can sit around and spot stuff at 1000 meters.
