Been piloting Cats and Hunchs for awhile now and looking to expand my horizons. Got some hangar space and some MC and was wondering which (if any) Hero mech would you recommend. How does it suit your playstyle? Have you found it worth the investment? Thanks in advance for any replies!

i can recomend as a fellow hunchie player the Flame or Fang,
i own the Fang myself and it see's just as much play time as my
hunchback 4SP.
they play very much like each other mid close range brawlers.

video of me and friends few weeks back, me running the Fang if you cheack my channel you'll see the Fang a few times if you need an idea how it plays.

and yes it is well worth the investment, i love to play it the 30% is just a nice bonus in my eyes.

Flame is great. I play it with 4xLlaser, 315xl 18dhs. Lot of people run it with an ac20 or Gauss in the torso, and there are lots of different things you can do with it.

If I was in the market for another hero mech, I'd get the Ilya Muromets.

In my opion, the Fang doesn't offer enough uniqueness when it comes to hardpoints.
The Yen Lo Wang is outclassed because it only has 4 hardpoints, even though the ac20 in the arm is kind of neat. That arm is too easy to blow off though.

The Death's Knell will be interesting, but other non-ECM lights can mount more lasers or more streaks, so I can see it being victimized quite a bit.

If you like the 4SP with 4x mlas and 2x srm6 and want something similar get the Flame.

If you want something else get the Ilya.

If you want a challenge get the Yen-Lo-Wang

If you want to be a snowflake get the Fang.

If you are masochistic get the Deaths Knell.

I like all of them, but a Fang or Flame would be closest to maneuverability compared to a Hunchback.

for the Swayback lovers... how about a Hero mech based of off the Swayback that instead of having its the 6 laser hard points on the right side, split them and have 3 in each L/R torso while keeping the 1 on each arm and 1 in the head? Would it have an advantage over a standard Swayback? I really dont think so. It would just allow for you not to lose 6 lasers in one area if you lose that right torso.

Ilya can carry two gauss in arms. Never have to worry about blowing up like a gausspult!

Wang can carry an AC20 in the arm and has wicked torso twist. Also has higher engine cap. Falcon punch!

Flame and fang...yeah there're enough posts about them out there.

I have them all

Out of all of them Ilya Muromets will get you the furthest.

That's not to dis the Double Dragons, they are quite decent but Ilya Muromets can be quite the mech to be feared, it's heavy enough to stand up to assaults and has enough builds floating around there to fill just about any role you might like with out feeling like you are being shoe-horned into a "gimicky" ride.

All in all, most people enjoy running ilya and the 30% c-bill is a nice bonus. The other mechs you run because you want the 30% cbill boost. See the difference?

No advantage, just, you know, getting rid of the one major weakness of that variant. Nice try.

I actually enjoy running the Flame quite a bit, even though it's mastered now. I find it to be a great pug mech when I only have time for a couple of matches and can't get on voicecoms, because it's fast enough to move out of the bad situations when you find that all of the pugs that were fighting by your side magically died without seriously hurting the enemy.

In group matches, it works fantastic as a flanking striker, which is pretty much the optimal role for a dragon anyways.

Definition of advantage right there.

As for Hero mechs, if you were going to buy one of the ones available right now... ? Maybe the Flame or the Muromets.
Personally, I want a hero mech, but there is not one that has called out to me yet, so I would say, "wait and see" is the best option.

Wang is bit limp, don't buy it.
Fang is just a normal tooth, not enough bite for it's price.

Flame is hot enough, I hear it's pretty good for roasting.
Ilya is another good puchase, cheap russian without the diseases. May have some mafia backings.

I've not yet found a build that's worth a damn on the Ilya that I can't reproduce on one of the other 'Phracts.

I play my Wang less and less but OMG, I've played it to death.

My Flame has far better hardpoints than my Fang.

If I had to pick one, Flame (with the Wang close behind).
