Hello MWO players, but mostly, this goes out to the Devs. I'm hoping I can plant some ideas.
I remember specifically you guys saying that you didn't want players to take canon factions as their MWO Merc group name. I think that's an alright idea, and it actually works quite well as a tie-in for my own idea.
Now, MWO has been recording all sorts of stats on players, on maps, and the like. I'm sure that this will eventually be build into a nice Match making system that will allow players of similar skill levels to compete against each other. However, I'd like to see this get taken a step further.
In the Battletech universe, there are countless canon regiments, each with their own quirks and specializations. What I'd like to see is a system put into place that can group players up - based on their stats (not just kill ratios, but assists, spotting, tagging, preferred weight classes and weapon types, average speeds, and even how dependent they are on "High tech" items like LB-X ACs, TAG, and Double Heat Sinks in their mechs' construction). From there, based on how they compare to the rest of the community as a whole, they would be automatically "Assigned" to a canon regiment by default, where they could be pitted against another canon regiment from an opposing faction. So, for example, a player with a preference for heavy mechs might be more likely to find himself plopped into the Genyosha, while a player who focuses on lights might find himself in the Amphigean Light Assault Groups. Heck, you could even stick the players who're on the verge of getting banned into the Legion of Vega.
From that, paint schemes based on those canon forces could be used in place of the mechs that are still in their "Default" paint schemes, or players could be given to take the canon paint scheme for their 'mech at no cost. Likewise, canon unit emblems could be used on their 'mechs, as well.
A Suggestion For The Future Community Warfare.
