Who Wants To Be A Space Pirate!

If you can be a member of one of the Houses or Clans or Mercs why cant we be Pirates!?

Obviously the mechs would have to be a bit run down and stuck together with Gaffer Tape and chewing gum, possibly fall apart, explode and overheat like hell... But I think It would be nice to have the option to go REAL solo / Lone wolf with a bunch of miscreants rampaging around...

I was thinking that when CW comes out and everyone is earning these loyalty points to unlock new bits of kit and perks for their individual Houses \ Clans \ Merc units the Pirates could earn points to unlock salvaged weapons and Mechs. There would only have to be a limited selection of Mechs to start with or even just the one you could customise as you went along becoming the most notorious scallywag in the universe.

Also with CW, when the fighting starts and planets are won and lost the Pirates could mount raids on colonys to steal resources or weapons / Mechs and who ever controls the planet would have to defend the base from them... All in all I think being a Space Pirate really appeals to people, plus being Piratey is COOL :(

Ahoy me matey, the Plunder could be increased as we be having broke Mechs yer see!

Plus this be only an Idea for discussion and possible crazy Ideas thar could make it work....

I would rather be a space pirate from the periphery than be involved with one of the great houses and perpetual war.

i hope so. at least eventually.

i think devs are working very hard just to implement the major houses and later the clans right now.

maybe periphery pirates, mercenaries comes later when they got the major stuff down. and kinks worked out

I believe the Blood Pearls are actually supposed to be space pirates, but as you mentioned above there is no option atm.

Well if you want to pretend to be one of the pirate groups all you need to do is get an eyepatch and only use the trial mechs.

And type out 'Arrrgh, me matey' in every match, you forgot the most important thing about pirating, also I think your supposed to download music off the internet IIRC. Actually I think the devs did mention that they would consider adding in pirates as a faction later once CW was up and running. I think it would be a neat faction.

If you're a band of pirates, then by default, you;'re not solo/lone wolf.

Interestingly enough, for the tabletop game, they're coming up with rules for making Pirate groups in the upcoming Interstellar Operations manual (you can beta test parts of it here).

Essentially they work just like Merc units, except they have no real contracts, get very little support (or at least, no "official" support), and are likely to be shot on-sight by anyone and everyone regardless of what side they're fighting on (even their own), but on the other hand, they have 100% salvage rights!

Now, in MWO we don't "really" have salvage, everything is automatically converted into C-bills. But still, a "pirate" band would essentially be a Merc Corps.

I sooooooooo want pirates in this game only so we can hunt them down via contracts in CW.

I suppose it is nice to be constantly hunted in patchwork, limited tech 'Mechs that suffer damage from a stiff breeze, have no means of resupply other than salvage, and live in places that by even Periphery standards are the *** end of nowhere.

I would rather face down a full galaxy of Dire Wolf Omnimechs with nothing but a can opener than live that life.

In the TT game I'm joining, our Merc Corp accepted a contract from a dubious faction led by the "Chief Murderess Supreme".

Strangely enough, it turned out not to be as good a deal as they thought. :P
