Good Evening.

World of Lotax EU division, The Fighting Cockerels, have noticed a worrying trend. There are less and less of you appearing at night to play Mechwarrior Online the way it is meant to be played, as an 8 man team.

This is disappointing.

In order to combat this, WOL leadership has seen fit to declassify gun-camera footage from a recent engagement. This is intended as an educational piece, you will see how the Fighting Cockerels tackle every single drop, from mission preparation, scouting and engagement with the enemy.

We realise some of the information contained within breaks WOL opsec, but we are so concerned about the state of 8 man play that we are willing to allow this information to be consumed by the general public.

If this video sparks your interest, and you want to get involved in reinvigorating the MechWarrior Online 8 man pool, as well as improving your enjoyment of the game, then why don't you seek out a group to play with? There are plenty of sterling organisations who would be thrilled to have new blood coming to join them.

I encourage the various mercenary groups resident on these forums to come out and let people know that they are looking for recruits, and to post their own motivational pieces to increase the nightly drop count.

I'm afraid the limits of OPSEC are drawn here.

It's real simple.

No weight balancing in the 8 man queue.

I am interested in talking to this "The Wizard". Space America needs to find the best route to combat nefarious Space al-Qaeda Sorcerers.

Could it be that they got tired of running against Goons that insist on cheese techniques (like calling for a duel, suckering someone in, only to have the Goons entire team blast him away) to get the upper hand?

Or could it be that they are tired of the immature chat abuse they have to put up with them that comes largely from Goons?

Seriously... until 3-4 years ago, Goons used to be about being a collective of intelligence and talent. That purpose feels like it's been (mostly) perverted into a disrespectful horde of teenagers and elitist nerd-ragers.

If you have ever responded to a request for an hounoure duele from anyone you do not know prior to the event you deserve to get ganked.

If you find the word "SQUAWK" to be immature chat abuse, you are terrible.

And while I don't have the demographics to hand I'm pretty sure goons trend towards mid 20s/early 30s rather than teenagers. And of COURSE we're elitist. If you'll forgive a wikipedia quote:

Quote

Elitism is the belief or attitude that some individuals, who form an elite — a select group of people with a certain ancestry, intrinsic quality or worth, higher intellect, wealth, specialized training or experience, or other distinctive attributes — are those whose influence or authority is greater than that of others; whose views on a matter are to be taken the most seriously or carry the most weight; whose views or actions are most likely to be constructive to society as a whole; or whose extraordinary skills, abilities, or wisdom render them especially fit to govern.

Clearly the word "govern" is inapproriate to this setting, but I'd rather preserve the whole quote than hamfistedly shove another word in there. If we didn't think that we were the group to be taken most seriously or that our actions weren't constructive TO THE GAME AS A WHOLE then we wouldn't BE goons. We'd be part of whatever group we thought represented that. Every gaming group believes itself to be the best one to be in, otherwise it wouldn't exist.
