I'd say the yen lo is better than the AL or the D personally, only the A gets more damage more consistently for me. It's definitely better than the D IMO and it's kinda a tossup between it and the AL. Seems fine to me... It's hard to get perfect balance and I'd really rather that hero mechs be 10% underpowered than 1% overpowered.

If a hero mech is the best choice for it's chassis this game is officialy P2W

The armor is adequate when in skilled hands since a good YLW will be running a maxed out XL engine, and with Speed Tweak be well over 100 KPH.

Skilled hands allow you to go faster than the cap speed? I must suck more than I thought, since maxed engine and speed tweak only gets me to about 99.7kph.

On topic, I think it could use a couple more energy hardpoints. I wouldn't so much consider it a "buff" as a expansion in options. As-is, playable builds are pretty limited and don't leave any options to reduce dependence on the gun arm.

By canon, Yen Lo Wang should have energy hard points in the left arm, too. That'd make it a bit more useful for something you have to pay close to $20 for.

actually, only the YLW 2.0 has the left arm energy hardpoints. That Wang also has a Gauss Rifle, 3 Medium Pulse Lasers and X3 Myomers. Hasn't actually been modified yet. Wont be for over a year. This is the YLW 1.0 used by Justin Xiang Allard. Now, it SHOULD have titanium claws on the left hand, but no melee yet. (Of course, speaking of Melee, there is the 3.0 used in MW: Dark Age, by Danai Lio-Centrella, with the Hatchet and Shield, Heavy Large Laser, LRM) 20 w/Artemis)

The YLW is by far the weakest of the Centurions. A single energy or ballistic hard point on the left torso or left arm would suffice. Other than that, two missile hard points in the left torso would be acceptable. My 9-AL and 9-D regularly do double the damage of my YLW in a match.

There is no Yen Lo Wang 2.0, it's just Yen Lo Wang's more modern configuration - which is currently impossible to make, and will still be after 3051 (ie next year)when Kai goes to Outreach. Unless they change it, we'll never be able to emulate the abilities Yen Lo Wang has in the very close future, unless they charge us again for "Yen Lo Wang 2."

Imho the YLW needs one more Energy Hardpoint to make up the missing ability to use Melee attacks.
Also they could take away 1 Ballistic Hardpoint and add 1 Energy Hardpoint for it so it has 1 Ballistic and 4 Energy Hardpoints.

Since you said "well over 100kph,'" not "100kph," I'd say you exaggerated well over .3. Not to nitpick, but obvious exaggerations like this will detract from an otherwise valid point of view.

The obvious question is whether or not you use SSRM....?

I tend to get between 400-600 damage in my Wang and that's in line with other centurions. I'd rather they buff stuff that is WAY underpowered, not "well it might be underpowered hmmm". They need to hammer down the outliers that are overperforming, and boost the outliers who are underperforming before we can balance the ones in the middle.

The mechs that really need buffs are the ones that we can unanamously agree on, like the spiders, the non 2D commandos, the cicada with 5 lasers instead of 6 for no reason whatsoever, THOSE mechs and the others like them are the ones that need help.

agreed

Not a bad idea. If they ever implement melee then give the wang an axe. Or a katana.

P.S. <insert buff + wang joke here>

I'll take an Axe for my Wang, but it doesn't need anything else. It's not how many hardpoints that count, it's how you use them.

People seem to be omitting a very important part of the YLW package in their descriptions: its superior perks.

CN9-YLW torso twist: 120
All other CN9: 90

YLW total arm deflection possible: 120 (arm twist+torso twist)
Other CN9: 130 (barely any more. Note the result that the CT lasers are more usable on the YLW.)

The YLW also has other perks, though I think they the patch notes that detailed them may have been lost in the transition to Open Beta. Can anyone else find them or a record of them?

Having used the FANG/FLAME for over a month now, I bought the YLW since it was on sale and purchased all the upgrades... and I really don't care for it. The FLAME has more firepower and goes faster... which seems odd to me that it would go faster than the best upgrade for YLW.

You have to twist your wang when its getting beat on, otherwise, it will pop early.

Yen Lo needs at least one missile hardpoint to be competitive. It might be fun to run them in 4 mans, but there are better 50 ton mechs to be using in 8 mans.
