I'm unable to turn off my override and I end up cooking myself to death. I really like the new way overrides are intended to work, but it looks like they aren't working as intended just yet

It should turn off automatically after 5 seconds.

Shut down after you take the critical shots you deemed necessary for an override maybe?
Just an fyi though, you should never override. Either accept shutting down from frantic shooting, or pro up and start playing your heat gauge properly. Timing your shots to not over heat is the only way to put out proper DPS without screwing yourself.

I'm pretty sure that you need to shut down or otherwise dissipate the heat in that 5 second window or you'll have that result every time. Turning it off when overheated would only engage instant - cooking - as you describe it.

If I were able to turn "off" the override what should happen is that I should immediately shut down, as I would then be in a state identical to a normal overheat. I would then power back up when my heat was low enough. Alternatively, I could force a power down, but then I would stay powered down and have no idea what my actual heat level is. I like what they were trying to do with the new override but I don't think it is quite right (even if the power-up while overheated function is currently not working as advertised). This new override would work much better as a straight toggle than a 5 second timer, complete with some visible indication on the HUD that it was engaged. Barring it become a toggle, I think it would help a lot if we still got a HUD indicator or something.
I was also unable to power myself down manually, btw.
