Hello everyone, Q here. I've been playing for two or so months, and i made the mistake(Sort-of) of buying a jenner-f as my first mech. I consider myself an acceptable pilot, and with 4 mpl i can usually bring down a medium or heavy mech in a one on one.
But, all i ever encounter it seems are Raven 3Ls with streak missiles who, while almost NEVER touching me with lasers, can wipe the floor with me by streak missiles alone. Lore-wise, Jenners are supposed to be both faster AND more heavily armed than Ravens right? I'm no expert so please correct me if i'm wrong on that point. If that is the case, why do i encounter these Raven 3L mechs that run as fast as i do, bear similar armour, and are much more effectively armed?
I figured buying a jenner-D model and fitting it with streak missiles would balance out the tables, but that turned out to be a waste of C-bills... I Immediately discovered the second brutal advantage these ravens have over my jenner. I can't even get a missile lock on them, even if they're standing still, not moving, and at point plank range. So now i don't even have the extra damage of the pulse-lasers to fight them, and the situation is the same.
Lately i've been playing with dumb-fire SRM4s, and while they do help, they offer nowhere near the level of usefulness that streak-missiles do. Streaks will always hit the three torsos, no matter what once they're fired, except for terrain impacts. Dumbfire SRMs have a minor delay in firing, they don't track, and have a large spread of light damage.
The point of this whole wall of text is to try and put a new players perspective on this whole ECM "Craven" situation. Whenever i go up against another pilot, and i can out-pilot them completely, yet i die to their constant barrage of streaks, it is very frustrating. I feel like once you encounter an ECM raven, you have a 15 second window to live. In those 15 seconds, you can either kill the enemy raven, or have your armor slowly deteriorate under the constant volleys of streaks until you're nothing but flaming wreckage.
Also, please excuse the english. I'm not a native speaker.

Streaks do not always hit the torsos; even straight-on, they will hit legs and arms (and occasionally, heads), and torso-twising will help spread it out even more.
The problem is that they took ECM and made it into God mode.

Jenners are not ideal for fighting Raven 3L. The best way to counter another ECM mech is with your own ECM, if you can't out-pilot those 3L then you have to try not to get caught alone by them. Stay a bit closer to your team so thy can provide backup if you're getting murdered by a Raven. A teammate with a volley of large lasers can put a big dent in that 3L's legs.
You also might want to try using dumb-fire SRMs instead of streaks, you'll need to lead your target to account for travel time and fire delay, but they pack a hell of a punch. Two SRM4s will unload twice as much damage as an enemy with 2 SSRM2s.

I don't agree with the God mode comment. The Jenner is the same tonnage as the Raven so they can pack the same amount of armor. As for the ECM issue, its not for you. You're running direct fire weapons so the Raven's ECM isn't going to affect your targeting. However streaks are a problem because, at speed, you don't have to keep the crosshairs on the target all the time. Just enough to maintain lock and you can hold down the fire button. Which is, IMO, easy mode (yes I run SSRM2s on my Raven 3L, with ECM and medium pulse lasers).
I think the best solution for you is to run back to the heavies and assaults on your team and take shelter there. More likely than not, you'll have a D-DC with ECM on your side who wil probably disrupt the Raven 3L's ECM. If not, your team mates should help you out with the Raven because its annoying as hell and nobody likes it (but the Raven pilot). So take shelter amongst your bigger buddies, there's no honor lost doing that, and they'll like an easy kill. One alpha from a brawling Atlas and that raven is dead.

Jenner Fs were a great 'mech. RVN-3Ls wer never a bad 'mech, but they attracted a lot of ****** pilots who thought the Raven was supposed to be the ultimate godmode light for every purpose, and when they engaged scout pilots who'd been using Jenners since early Closed Beta... it didn't go well for them. So they QQed a whole bunch to make sure the Jenner couldn't have ECM and got a faceroll platform for Streak boating, which is why now you may see one Jenner in every ten matches, on a good day.
(Of course, the COM-1D, COM-3A, COM-1B, RVN-2X and RVN-4X got shitcanned even worse, but people at least use them sometimes to unlock the Elite efficiencies for their 3Ls and 2Ds.)
