Currently players are awarded a decent sized sum of c-bills and XP for Kills and a more modest sum for Assists. From my experience, what this leads to is some players randomly and dangerously spraying weapon fire across the battlefield in hopes of getting as many assists as possible before dying, and players being extremely reckless attempting to deliver the kill shot in order to maximize their c-bill and XP awards.
To better award desired behavior I recommend the following change. Remove the awards for Kills and Assists. Instead, track the amount of damage done to each mech and whom it's done by until its destroyed. At the end of the match award Kill/Assist awards based on the % of the damage done to each destroyed mech. If devs are feeling overly aggressive, penalties can be deducted for friendly fire in the same manner.
Example: If a CPLT-A1 took 300 pts of damage (armor, internals, and components) before being destroyed and three players dealt damage to the mech in the following amounts: player A did 200, player B did 75, and player C did 25 they would be awarded the following: player A = 67% kill, player B = 25% kill, and player C (despite getting the "kill shot") = 8%.
By making this simply change players are awarded for their overall contribution towards victory and not for lone wolf actions that are an overall detriment to the team.
Awards for damage, spotting, tag, etc should not change.
