Weapons that are generally considered suitable for building a mech around with them as primary weapons:
AC20
LLAS
PPC
UAC5
MLAS
GAUSS
SRM
Streak SRM
SLAS

Weapons that are generally considered "reasonable" choices as Secondary/kicker weapons:
AC10
AC5
SSRM
SLAS
LRM (with reservations over targeting)
MPLAS (With strong reservations over heat -- best used with excessive tonnage and shortage of criticals or hardpoints)
LRM (unreliable against skilled teams)

Weapons with "issues" - Don't use these without fully understanding issues - likely to cause problems.
ER LLAS (too hot)
ER PPC (too hot - although lack of min range)
LB-10X (Damage too split)
LPLAS (Too hot - short range)
SPLAS (too hot - short range)
AC2 (low damage and too hot and ammo)
FLAMER (doesnt do anything other than distraction)
MG (doesnt do anything - may change to secondary list soon with buff)

Many "good" builds will have all weapon systems from primary list (ieDDC AC20 2MLAS 3SRM6). A build with all weapon systems from the secondary list is *probably* undergunned or suboptimal. A build with weapons from the "issues" list is *probably* suboptimal/compromised.

It is not absolute, but very much a trend to notice the success and failure of specific certain weapons.

Good input; I tried the pulse lasers and ER beam weapons myself - they're just too hot for their damage right now. It's good for people to know this going in.

Don't forget that the ER weapons are getting a buff next patch too. Particularly the PPC might well improve dramatically once February 5th rolls around. =)
