Hola Lancers n Lancetts,

I'm an INCREDIBLY Ancient Mech-stick that has been rolling the Raven since it appeared and loving how the type has evolved over the many years and archetypes ( as a lil mech NOT missing the swarming Jump-Infantry of the TT 80's !) and have a few Raven-esque questions to the Closed Beta crews?

1) I've seen the new Raven Artwork for MWO - actually like it but miss the mega-beak - do any drivers know if it will feature in either beta?

2) I've enjoyed terrain hugging and recon in the Raven for eons - but do LRM and support Mechs see a use for a small, agile forward observer Mech fitting thier gameplay?

3) Does anyone know if the Raven will be limited to Capelian Sphere faction considering where we are in the timeline - If so I am totally changing my mind from Merc Company and learning to eat noodles and love facist-stylee numerology!!!!

4)Will Beagle and other ECM packages make it into the game and allow lil - iddle target painting mechs to help you big thudding ground pounders with target aquistion and extended Sensor range like modern -era centric systems do ( I SWEAR they dev'd that from MechCommander!)

Answers on a Heat-Sink please

Don't know about the other questions, but it's been stated that all factions will have access to all mechs, but prices will be different. So the Raven will be more expensive for me, a Lyran, than a Capellan.

Also, for #2? Totally. You could run ahead and target other 'Mechs for your buddies and they can launch their LRMs from across the map.

Well, it's not implemented into the beta as of yet, so they don't know themselves. :)

However, everyone can access our little marvel, which saddens me, but oh well...

Little marvel? That suit of Battle Armor is hardly worth anyone's time.

I disagree. If they can implement the Guardian ECM Suite, I think the Raven would be very much sought after and appreciated on a friendly team

1) no, it will not get the "beak". as far as i know they decided against it

2) would be nice

3) see above, no need for learning eating noodles

4) the are planned, but my guess will be that the actual implementation will take some time

But why use something that small? Surely they could use a Medium 'Mech like the Dragon or the Warhammer?

Oh, so that's why...

"Though loath to admit it, AFFC is still attempting to replicate the effective electronics package of the RVN-3L Raven."

Something to note is that's AFFC, not AFFS, so you're doing it too. :)

It's not the Electronics, it's the weight! Why scout with Battle Armor when you could use such capable recon 'Mechs like the Banshee?

Same reason for the other light scouter mechs, quick and agile. Everyone has their preferences I guess. I myself would love to see the super beak raven, but oh well.

Ahhh, what are you doing, you cant ask beta testers for info...beta testers, you cant talk about beta, what about the beloved NDA...the NDA....Ahhhh, no beta for ju!

Mmmm, now God loves me.

On a serious note, I do plan to rock light recon mechs...maybe even a medium in the Cicada if they give us a CDA-3G...gotta see how well Mechlab will allow us to spec the Cicada for recon.

But what I really want is a Snow Fox-2, zoomorphic-quad love FTW!

Can not say I was ever actually a fan of the super-beak. I do however have a soft spot for the raven as I scouted in one in MW4 and used one to great effect in Mech Commander 2.

When equipped with a narc beacon and ECM, it is a force to be reckoned with, especially in a well organized force with missile support in there.

Nothing beats the feeling of hitting an enemy with harassing rear angle fire while simultaneously painting a target, then being gone before your enemy even has a chance to draw a bead on you. I am going to add some of these !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! for emphasis...

I know in every BTech game I've played, I've had a blast tying slow mechs in knots trying to get a lock on my light...If I want something that's going to get in FAST, tag something, and survive...I want a light, not a moving target ^_^

Now if they'd give my Spider a Narc beacon...*sighs* THAT would be interesting ;)

Yay, another Raven fan!

Im not in Beta so I can't answer any of those questions. But i am really looking forward to driving a Raven, as it was very fun in previous games, though I never used it for scout purposes.

Personally, I love the Catapult and plan on primarily using both the CPLT-C1 and CPLT-K2 variants. As a support player, I encourage skilled pilots to make good use of light flanking units, such as the Raven, and have always hated when players underestimate the effect a Light Mech can have on the battlefield. From a tactical standpoint, a good Scout Mech is critical for a competitive team. Locating and painting a target on the enemies artillery units, or harassing the enemies base (luring the Assault Mech's away from the front line) is something that only a Light Mech can do effectively. Medium Mech's, while more likely to survive getting shot at and able to crank out more DPS, are also more likely to GET shot at and get caught while attempting to flank the enemy formations.

So screw 'em all and grab the Mech you love. If someone trash-talks you about it, show them what it feels like to wear a 'kick me' sign in Mechwarrior.

Also...

I hadn't heard the news about prices differing between factions. Anyone heard how big of a difference we are talking about here, or how these price differences will effect Mercenary units?

Old MW from MW 2 and on, the MW4 Raven was my cockpit of choice in Clan Thunder Wolf for most engagements outside of MWL tournaments where pop up sniping was nearly mandatory. the Raven is the unsung hero of combat engagements, as the steiner soldier there says, 'why something so light?'. well, you may not know this, but not everything requires 20 tons of armor to be efficient, a light mech is cheap, it's fast, it's well equipped, and it has a low profile making it difficult to see.

The Raven will probably be the focus of most of my Corps. Light Lances with Jenners and Hunchbacks for tacklers, don't be surprised if a Raven pops up behind an outcrop and suddenly you're facing LRM death. matched with ECM and BAP, the Raven will be a logistical nightmare for any enemy unit on the field. and a good raven pilot stalks, like most birds it uses is agility to take its prey.

PRICELESS!

When I started this thread I had no idea that so many mech pilots were as fond of the raven as I was !

I'm loving the Jenner, don't get me wrong, but my heart will always be in lil beaky - sneaking around the battlefield, painting big ol mech ***** with a targeting laser and zooming off whilst they get an unexpected delivering of LRM to the rear loading-dock!

The normal reason for recon is to get out and back faster than your primary force can move.

The secondary reason is to lessen your loss in case of an ambush, which has the corrolary of keeping your recon from getting decisively engaged if they can avoid it.

Both of the mechs mentioned above are not good for fast movement (4 hexes in the original system). They are lightweight fire lance components, not skimishers.
