Are there aimbots out there which yield headshots?

I can't remember dying much from headshots in MWO until a few days ago - maybe once every 30 matches or so max.

But in the last few days I died 4 times from headshots - so about every 7 games or so (I didn't count exactly).

Was that just bad luck/good opponents or are there aimbots which yield headshots?

If that is the case, I hope PGI will do something about it fast.

I still can't understand why people would play a game like this while cheating like that, since cheating like that should take all the fun away, but that is another story...

I'm guessing you're playing a catapult?

Those things can be headshot by accident since the head hitbox is so big.

Perhaps it's the netcode? It has been much easier to hit where you mean to hit lately.

1 shot, 1 kill = 33 damage

Previously, snipers were running twin gauss which only did 30 damage. People have gotten more creative in there use of PPCs, and now are beyond that magic threshold making it more common. Not to mention, the 6xPPC 'lulz' stalker can 'headshot' you by completely removing your CT in lights and mediums :) (yes, there are a fair number of people that can take down speedsters with them)

I haven't noticed anything resembling hacks in my almost 1500 OB games. However my experience isn't everyone else's.

You used to be able to mess with the resoution for immense mechs on screen.
And there's an aimbot that doesn't work, and is more of a 3d radar. But that doesn't work right now, either.

That's all I know of.

Personally I despise cheaters.

I once met a guy who defended his use of cheats with "we're not gaming losers, okay? Just use the hacks and we'll own these guys" "I don't play games for hours each day, hacks are just playing smart" and once "I had the skill and knowledge to make this hack on my own and if others can't, it's not my problem". Needless to say I don't play with these guys.

The closest thing I have seen to hacks in MWO was when I was running at a 90 degree angle, 85kph, 200 yards out chain-firing my streaks in my A1 (this was pre-ECM, back when streaks rocked hard). He turned, fired 3 large lasers into my cockpit, then did it a second time for the kill. Nothing else was damaged, just the cockpit.

However, most cases of "omg he uses aimbot" are actually just good fortune or good aim. If you're standing still or charging straight forward it's really easy for someone to peg your cockpit. Remember from MW2:Mercs Sgt Unther said "speed is life, you go slow you die". Using an x2 AC20 build I one-shotted an Atlas on Frozen City as he peaked up over the ridge. Poor guy had no idea what had happened.

If you know where to aim head shots were not impossible to get pre-patch but after the patch I have probably doubled the number I had before hand. Shots are just hitting more reliably and as someone said some mechs are just easier to hit than others, like the Catapult.

I haven't noticed any increase in headshotting, and I've been driving an Awesome for the last week.

I assume Havelock Vetinari, the Patrician of Ankh Morpork would solve the puzzle by taking captive the people who headshotted him, out them into a dungeon and threatening them in creative ways to tell him how they did it.

Or he would ask Leonardo da Quirm :)

I for my part would assume that Zylo is on the right track, i.e. it has something to do with the size of the head hitbox and maybe the damage potential of alpha strikes

While I am sure most times the accusations of AimBot are mostly just a lucky shot, I did witness one game where I watched someone do 5 shots and 4 kills only a few minutes into the match. He could have been very skilled, maybe...

That tends to happen on Caustic or Frozen City when someone just wants to peek over the ridge.

Ahh laggy netcode, the ultimate anti-aimbot tool.

Or the other Cat. In three weeks I have 30 head shots on Cataphracts. Nothing else, maybe 5 head shots on Catapults and 3 Awesomes.

Thanks to the improved netcode I have been getting the occasional headshot every other match. Aiming is way easier now, meaning people who could aim before can hit almost anything now :)

I think this singlehandedly kept hacks out of beta entirely lol

My mech of choice is a dual AC20 cat. I'm probably averaging 2 headshot / one hit kills a match these days, simply by knowing how to lead targets and where to shoot them. The easiest targets for me are dragons and - entertainingly - atlases. I have real problems though with stalkers and bizarrely, considering their supposedly massive hitboxes, other cats.

It's not the size of the Cat's head hitbox, it's the placement. Just above square CT, pretty much where people tend to aim even without trying for a headshot.
