Don't do it.

Play around with builds @ http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab and you'll see why.

Anything useful you can do with Cicada, you can do with another mech, but better.

i've not piloted one but i've never really seen them do something a jenner cant do better, its an overweight light thats much easier to hit at range.

I will present this from the perspective of smaller ECM Mechs.

The ECM Mechs all have their own distinct roles... the Spider is the only ECM Mech with Jump Jets; The Commando has the most arm-motion and carries the most SSRM2 packs; the Cicada is big enough to mount an actual Ballistic weapon; the Raven is an all-arounder.

There are only 3 reasons to chose the Cicada over the Raven, in my opinion: 1.) The Cicada can use a Ballistic weapon to keep heat down, but your options all come with sacrifices; the super-secret, hidden ECM Gauss Cicada sniper is slow and underarmored, the AC/10 Cicada is kinda of a poor middle-ground, and the AC/2, AC/5 Cicadas don't have enough whump to act as a hit-and-run striker. Reason #2 is that dropping in a Cicada will likely pit you against an enemy Medium instead of an Enemy Light... and some people would rather drop against Mediums than Lights...

...#3 would be if you intend to level-up the Cicada Chassis line.

I, personally, bought 3 Ravens, leveled all 3 to Basic Efficiency, then Leveled my Raven-3L to full Master, got the Module Slot, then sold the other 2 junkers. I just like the Raven 3L's combo of speed, small Mech Model size, missiles, ECM, and lazorz!

With a plague of locust incomming, the cicada might be a nice tank for them. I magine a lance with a ecm cicada with a swarm of locusts.... A harrasment team.

My 3m is one of my best mechs.

. XL320
. 4x MPLAS
. AMS + 1t ammo
. Almos Max Armor minus some a fluff.

It runs about 130 after tweak and pops bad guys for 24 damage per alpha.
Best personal stats game so far was 900+ damage and for kills.

Best game overall was with one MPLAS replaced with a tag and a 4 lrm20 stalker teammate.
Is too fun calling in the rain when bad guys wander I into the open thinking they are in the clear.

The 3m isn't for everyone, but don't let the haters convince you that the mech is without merit.

I'm busy now so I can't, but if you go to smurfy ill bet you can make that same build with a Jenner, and it'll be superior.

Faster, smaller and has JJ. Same weapon loadout.

The Jenner's armor maxes out a bit lower than the Cicada, though. 238 vs 274.

Yeah this is why the Cicada is subpar. It is just a huge target compared to a Jenner and really doesn't do a better job. Also if you want ECM, a Raven is a better platform, again because of size.

Only real reason to buy a Cicada is for flavor.

Target profile is a big problem with the cicada. The chassis is outclassed by both the jenner and the 3L because of this.

That said, it can be a fun, challenging mech. I love my 3A and am going to buy a 3M soon.

The Cicada and the Awesome desperately need some special quirks (say, vastly superior handling compared to their superior counterparts).

The Jenner is maybe superior except for that no ECM thing. Oh and its a self loathing drug addled jenner. I guess homeless people need mechs too.

The 3L has ECM but fewer energy hardpoints. Its also got streaks! Unfortunately its also the pedophiles mech of choice. Maybe you're into that. I'm not judging.

Yes, the cicada is slightly larger with slightly more armor. It also tends to be piloted by the best of the best. Only individuals with great taste and superior sex appeal.

Anyone who tells you that any one of these mechs is vastly superior to the other is biased and exaggerating. Unless they are recommending the cicada. In that case they are both correct and super hot with rock hard abs.

But hey you rock out with those jenner and raven death traps. Just remember to check your self respect at the door.

Truth is that the difference is a matter of opinion.

300XL, 2x PPC, ECM?

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...1d9f122fd76a41d

You can get the same speed from a Jenner, but it'll have less armor and no ECM. It also has no jumpjets, no SSRMs or anything that would make it superior, unless you argue that it being a Jenner is superior by itself.

Maybe this just doesn't qualify as "anything useful."

Nice, but I'd me more inclined to go with builds like this and this.

1 JJ >>>>>> No JJs, and given that it is a hit and run/harasser, shaving a half ton of armor off the legs shouldn't be too bad.

I like my 3M, i use it as a light hunter.

My personal favorite right now is LB10-X (3 tons of ammo) and 2 mediums 2 smalls.
