In all fairness I just want to keep this thread alive because PGI needs to know that Maps need to be larger and grander. This thread has a load of great ideas.

Hell I'd actually like to see the forum "coders, software developers, programmers, and graphical artists" that brag about how they could pull this off put their money where their mouth is and help make some of these maps.

That would be nice.

Hell, I'd be willing to lend part of my services (albeit in a highly unskilled manner so far) for creating some of the models. (Extremely low-res only -- just a skeleton really.)

I'm going to school to be a game designer, so I'm familiar with Autodesk Maya, to a certain extent. (That extent is still less than a year of use though =/ )

They have 10-15 maps done already, they're just trickling content out because they think it'll keep us wanting more.

The old "carrot in front of the donkey" trick won't work here!

Valve did it with TF2. Where there was user created content. I mean this is much more complex but a good relationship with the community and creation of content would be great.

I like em all, but I would like to add in that default map from TT, you know the one, with the little lake in the center and three surrounding hills. Just for kicks.

I'm surprised, no one has brought up fighting on a completely hostile environmental map. Something like the Tukayyid Devil's Bath.

Doesn't have to be boiling mud, could easily be Caustic Valley Active Volcano Edition.

The forest fire map proposed comes close, but I'm thinking having something like a lava field pockmarked with geysers that periodically erupt damaging mechs around it, forcing people to fight mobile battles, which demand decisions like whether to disengage or attempt to finish off enemies with the risk of having yourself parboiled.

Environment hazards would be pretty cool.

additonal to my choice I would like to see an industrial area with steam in the air and chimneys for flared gases. Like you can see in StarWars Episode II at Coruscant.

According to Ask the Devs 31 Answers, it looks like we will get a Moonscape map eventually.

Yep:
Dagger6T6 - We have heard of the next maps coming in like the Alpine and the Desert... Can you tell us even the slightest detail of what locations we might see after that? Swamp, Jungle?... or something exotic like Asteroid, Cave, Garth's boudoir.
A: Volcano, Canyons, and Moonscape are up next after Alpine and Desert. This gives us a full suite of art assets to play with and create dozens of combinations .

Yeah, and also according to Ask the Devs 31 Answers, the community, unfortunately, probably won't be able to build its own maps....

ElliottHD -Are there any plans to open up a "create a map" system for players. Maybe as a second program all together that has a suite or map building and editing tools. Then those user created maps could be uploaded to the server. You could just have a toggle next to the launch button to "Allow user created maps." Are there plans do "exotic" or "interstellar" maps? The current maps are places that could found on earth. How about some intergalactic variety. Something truely Alien. Once we can start and run official Merc Corps, is there a plan to allow members to share c-bills and mech parts? Maybe with a central Corp bank like EVE has? Will Corps have thier own rank/level? Will that rank/level effect the contracts the Corp can take on? Or effect other bonuses possibly?
A: Due to the complexity of designing maps, including the performance and balance requirements, we do not plan support user made levels. We are working towards more alien looking worlds with the upcoming new maps. At this time we are not able to discuss the details of CW, however, we are being very careful about player-to-player transfers, as it opens up the game to farming and cheating.

Now, on the other hand, it's also possible that we'll be able to have input on the making of maps, and that'd be awesome. (Though if that happened, we'd have to wait until after their initial set of maps is designed, because they would need a baseline for stuff to build off of.)

I would really love the idea of a forested map, with some hills and rivers. It would be great if the trees were as large as the mechs so that when inside the "forest" visibility would be extremely limited. There could be bald hills with vantage points strewn throughout the map along with intersecting streams / rivers.

I am not sure if the cry engine can handle it but it was be flippin nutty if as the mechs moved through the forest the trees would topple. Similar to a person running through a corn field. By the end of the match the forest would have all these these open paths of crushed through the forest, and crushed down areas where fights took place.

On a third note the forest could start out on fire and slowly burn over time causing areas of intense heat that slowly engulfed the map (discouraging campers).

CryEngine can handle that but it's a trade off of performance vs special effects. Also in the lastest Q&A they mentioned that trees are not replicated across the network and are only client side which means even if they were toppled from your perspective it wouldn't be from another players. And this can cause issues as they are going to be introducing trees that will hinder movement/stop bullets/etc so if you could topplet the tree but it's not synced across to everyone else ... you see where this is going.

Love the idea, similar to what I was suggesting with Caustic - make it dynamic and the volcano can erupt randomly.

ALL OF MY FECKING WANT

If you're close enough to see details on an event horizon with your bare eyes you're already dead from the radiation.

I would like to see a Redwood Forest, but instead of redwood trees, gigantic mushrooms that you can land on in some spots.

Volcano, Canyon and Moonscape huh?

Great, we have to wait a year before MWO games are playing on another planet besides earth.

Volcano = another caustic (seriously, they need some direction)
Canyon = great, MWO in the grand canyon, another earth location
Moonscape = ok, finally, probably in 2015 we'll have moonscape.

I am losing faith. I wouldn't care if I wasn't passionate about the game and MW/BT. The game is stale because we still have only 4 maps. I know in a week 1/2 we'll have one more, but since we cannot choose the map we play on it'll be the rarest map in the rotation. Yesterday I play River City Night about 10 times out of the 12 games I played.

Also, why would they not release screenshots of the new maps yet? They must be finished, why won't they reveal at least Alpine?
