at that point we should be able to call in a one of those firefighting planes to douse the map with water

and send out a blazing signal.. Mech x was here.

You do realize by setting the forest on fire, you are letting your enemy know where to look for you? Right? :D

You might think this would be the case, but with fast mechs you can quickly cause enough fires to give them multiple locations to wonder about. I've used this in Double Blind TT and had a friend comment on how I am no longer allowed to take mechs that have flamers.

Same thing in Mechcommander where fires show up as a sensor contact. We used to play all kinds of sneaky tricks on each other such as my friend stripping all the sensors out of his mech and bringing two scout cars. I see a single vehicle sensor and send 2 lights over to check it out only to run into 4 Atlases. In turn I'd light whole forests on fire and move in behind it so he couldn't be certain where I actually was.

I'd like to test that Mercules. I'm not calling you a liar, just would like to test my reasoning v your possible patterns. :D

I hope we NEVER have destroyable environment.

Right now weapon convergence is based on target under reticule. How awesome is it going to be when all of your direct fire weapons try and converge on the tree in front of you, instead of the 'Mech behind them?

Umm...thats the way it SHOULD be. Then trees would actually provide a bit of cover.

That's under the asumption that you ever will....which I doubt greatly.

I don't think they've ever even hinted at CW being anything like that. Mercs will go where contracts send them and House units will go where they're told to, most likely having largely to do with the canon timeline. Mercs may get to select contracts and favor the ones sending them to map types they prefer to play on, but I highly doubt they'll do "pick the map you want to fight on."

Well, it's simple, When everything that can possibly burn and give off smoke is doing so... It's hard to figure out what approach I might be taking. Then again in the particular match in question I had 2 lances each with a Firestarter to his single lance of equal BV. I know I had a couple Mediums that had a single flamer as well, and Medium Lasers work okay for starting fires as well.

Since most of my weaponry was closer ranged I didn't mind having visibility limited until spitting range. Lighter mechs made me less likely to show up to Sesmic and thermal and visual was right out. Had a Raven in there for the Beagle and ECM and I was able to pick off one of his lighter mechs all by it's lonesome.

The scenario helped a lot too as it was a raid to destroy munitions. I figured Firestarters would be an asset especially when I was told the area was full of scrub and forest.

thats the point. Can you overcome your own egoism to like a post that you believe contains something good?

It's more of a cultural thing I guess. It would be comparable to a politician giving a speech and at the end of it saying he/she endorses his own speech.

You mean we'll be playing MW2:Mercs with the NAIS patch?

That does sound fairly compelling.

*Stops playing MWO*

*Loads MW2:Mercs back up*

A thermal cover like setting forests on fire, if implemented, works both ways. Visual and thermal sensors might be blocked, but radar wouldn't be. The target may not be visible, but the general reticule around them will be.

Still, any feature to increase tactical options is always one I'll approve of.

God I wish I could still download the NAIS patch ^_^

That was probably the best multiplayer game I've played. Added new content, could create your own maps, saved opponents configs so you could make sure no one was cheating or copy particularly effective builds.
