I have a e5200 for years now, 2.5 stock running 3.5 OC.
I was considering all new system soon, but I already have a somewhat acceptable experience with the e5200 and a radeon 6850. Win 7, 4 gig ram.

I see q6600 on ebay for 65 usd and am thinking maybe just swap out the cpu and see.

Anyone still running the q6600? and how does it handle the game.
btw. I run at mostly med/low. average Id say 35 fps.
After performance tweek 6 weeks ago, game runs kinda fine.
thanks.

I'm running a Q6600 and it runs the game fine. It was about 30fps until this latest patch - I've noticed a jump to about 45~fps on average now.

Certainly not to be sniffed at for only 65 bucks.

I have one on my old system - i switched from a dual core to a quad core Q6600 and did a mild overclock to 3.0 gig.. it was for skyrim but it made a significant difference. When playing MWO with a GTX460 at 1920x1080 I can play at low - medium settings at a rock solid 45-50 fps. Which is perfectly acceptable for playing lights. I think it would be your best bang for buck upgrade - especially if you can overclock it.

I have one, however overclocked to 3.4GHz. It runs the game fine on high @1920x1080 settings (with HD6950), and with fine I mean around 40fps on average. I wouldn't look for anything less than this.

tnks for replies.. I think im gonna go this route.. Probably do my first cpu swap since it isnt like Im playing with hundreds of dollars. the way I look at it, if the game runs better, then I can put off getting something new for the foreseeable future which means ill only wind up getting something even better than if i upgraded now..

Another Q6600 here (good ol' Conroe's been treating me well), OC to 3.4 GHz with a GTX460 - been doing just fine! ;)

Just remember if you're buying it second hand you'll need your own thermal paste, because it wont come pre-applied. Hope the new CPU helps ;)

Q6600 is at about Phenom II level of performance clock/clock in most games. I've played this game a few times on a phenom II on 2.8, was playable. Q6600's should overclock quite well with a decent mobo/cooling.

iirc, Q6600s hit 3ghz without too much trouble. That's definitely enough to make the game quite playable, even in its current state.

tnks for replies again.. I am torn.. I had decided against it because it seems that my e5200 dual core gets about the same performance as the q6600. with both OC.
we will see.. At least the swap out is easy.

That would only be true in single and dual threaded programs. Programs that would use all 4 cores of the Q6600 would run faster on the Q6600(cough MW:O cough)

With good cooling most of all q66's clock to 3.4ghz on decent air cooling. Not as efficient as newer intel cpu's per clock cycle but should run the game quite sufficiently. Iirc mwo does utilize quad cores quite effectively.

I have one q6600 rig here and it runs the game fine. @342fsb=3079mhz, ~63°C, stock voltages
With a higher voltage i could go higher, but the MoBo doesn't support this ^_^
I got it for 44€ on ebay 2 months ago.

Occasional stuttering, but it runs MWO much much better then the old Dual Pentium E6300@3.4Ghz ! (i will post benchmarks later)
The E6300 have a better single core performance (~twice as much) but the Cryengine does run better on a Quad Core, thats a fact.

The q6600 is a cheap and fast way to upgrade your old rig. For MWO you NEED a 4 core CPU!
