So one thing I've noticed playing is that on occasion mechs will get knocked out quite abruptly though without any indication of what exactly did them in. How about adding indicators or messages about any ammo-explosions/critical hits on mechs you're currently engaging.
EX: all the shooting you're currently doing at a mech causes an ammunition explosion killing the mech. A small message pops up indicating that you just got a totally sick hit on their magazine, which killed them.
Ideally this message would not be as prominent as more important indicators like base cap warnings and such. Just inserted in the stream of x killed y and z disconnected messages.
