hi there

i know, quite some yen lo wang topics around, thanks to the ylw sale...but i didn't want to highjack another topic with a question that wasn't necessarily asked in the other threads

i'm a collector - but not a millionaire
if i could i would love to have at least one variant of each mech (but time and money forbids that yet)

i love my catapult - have 3 variants
bought death's knell, left the other variants aside
i'm going to buy a cn9-al - and then the ylw sale popped up

i'm rather undecided
is it worth buying the ylw as "collectible"? (not as my "main mech"...that's what i have my k2 for)
because its paintjob is awesome - and i actually would have no problem with the missing ability to move the right arm horizontally - it's the same thing with my k2's ppcs

but i wonder if the ylw is worth the 10€

under the light of "collectible"...

buy or no buy?

I really like the YLW. It's a bit of a "glass cannon" that is challenging to pilot well, but it packs a mighty punch. Mighty enough to quickly take down any mech in the game from a reasonably safe distance. The C-Bill bonus is nice too.

thanks for your impression :D

i think i've found a more suiting question:
should i buy an cn9-al for mc? or rather the ylw?

Why would you buy something with MC when you can do it with CB? Plus, since Wang has a 30% CB boost, when you unlock your basics for Wang, you'll probably have enough CB to buy and upgrade an 9-AL, if not already.

Get the Wang. Lots of fun.

I found YLW quite surprising to an extend. Originally I bought YLW when it first came out. Swapped the loadout, but never liked it. Couple of days ago I gave it another chance, sincerely because one of my friend is playing exclusively YLW with the stock loadout, only that he goes about 97-100kph ( I can't remember ) and he does really good with it. So I followed his trail, stock loadout, bigger engine to match his speed, and an AC/20 ( 4-5 tons of ammo ). And there I was surprised. Usually I go either with hunchback-4g or cataphracts for ac/20 loadout. either of them are slow compared to the YLW. I still love my cataphracts and hunchback-4g, but discovering YLW with this current build just made me realized how good this mech actually is. just my 2 cents.

thanks for your advice!

i've bought it...and it is a hell lot of fun!
aiming is much easier to the fixed horizontal position and being a zombie is just funny xD

wish i could only change the paintscheme's color!

was definately worth buying with the 30% discount!

I picked up the YLW on a whim thanks to the sale and I'm finding it great fun, as long as you protect the right arm by twisting away in between shots and don't stop to brawl then you can do a lot of damage for a medium.

YLW is a great mech. Sadly most people who trash talk it have never bothered trying to play it.

250 STD
ENDO
FF Armor (full points)
10 DHS
2 MLAS
1 AC20
4 tons AC20 ammo

This is a killer loadout, zombies for days.

I'll get right on that, just as soon as they remove that pesky elbow actuator from the CN9-D that gets in the way. I mean, jeez...who puts elbows in 'Mechs these days?

I personally did not care for the YLW when I had it, but that is me. Becoming a zombie right after the right arm gets a few scratches because the AC20 is so fragile really disinterested me, and no other build for it really seemed to do it for me.

You cannot put an AC20 in a Centurion D variant. Or any others. Not enough slots.

I bought one because of the sale.

Once you start getting a feel for protecting the "wang" part of your Yen Lo Wang (I'm speaking of the ac/20) this mech becomes great fun and packs a great punch.

Get 3 other friends and drop 4 Wangs, it's just hilarious.

Highly recommend this mech.

Edit: I run xl280, 2 mplas, and ac/20 with 5t of ammo. Try it, love it.

I've thought about it.... but it's too close to my current Hunchback 4H for my liking.

I can actually fit on MORE weapons on my 4H... though it won't Zombie quite so well, depending.

The AC20 is very fragile, but you can really wreck some havoc with it if you can aim at all. I love taking on heavies and assaults that think a medium is easy pickings - 100 points of AC20 to the center torso later and they're usually in the dirt.

I like it very much. Though I do not run it with as fast an engine as it is provided with at stock, in instances where I protect myself and my AC/20 (3-4 tons of ammo) then, I wreak havoc. Some of my highest scoring matches have been in my YLW. Even if it loses it's AC/20, my YLW packs 2 MPL to help score some damage and ward off threats.

It lacks versatility in it's customisation options but still produces some amusing variety. Energy hardpoints are fitted such that you're only going to get 2 small or 1 large energy weapon there. The arm has enough slots for an AC/20 (or 2 UAC/5's, if I recall correctly. Though I'm not sure that'd be very effective,). You could even go for double AC/2 (or Gauss Rifle) and an ER Large Laser for a long range build.

One of my favourite builds involved a 280XL engine, an AC/20 and 2 MPL. Fast and still hits hard but the Centurion is still a reasonably large target and the side torso sections are quite prominent. I usually ended up dying quickly in this build but had such an awesome time on the random occasions I would take it out. I'm not sure that anyone likes a mech that can do 100 kph and carries an AC/20.
