As the poll and the title states...Would you like to see screenshots of the Alpine Peaks map?...or would it be a 'spoiler' for you?

I would love to see the screenshots, and hoping that Garth 'n Company see this and release a few.

(The map comes out on the 19th)

You know you could have just added a poll to your other thread with the identical topic?

Of course I want pictures of Alpine Peaks. Just like I want the map right now, and the desert map, and community and clan warfare, and a large enough bank account that I never have to work again for the rest of my life.

That doesn't mean I won't wait patiently for the map to arrive.

Did I put an option in the poll for "cannot wait patiently"???

Nonetheless, we have all been patient, the 4 maps we have are STALE and growing mold.

CHECK OUT THIS NEW UNANNOUNCED MAP!

http://mwomercs.com/...what-were-doing

Lol. You can change the name of the map in the address bar and it'll show up as a map, albeit with Forest Colony as the maps.

Seven maps, since the three variants do indeed alter gameplay (except for frozen city night, though it is still quite pretty.)

During the last NGNG podcast, someone made a comparison between MWO and World of Tanks' number of maps that's really stuck with me. I'm paraphrasing here since I don't remember what was said word for word, but the gist of what they said was this: World of Tanks opened up with more maps than MWO currently has, and it didn't take the community long to start complaining for more. More were added, and again, within weeks people complained that the maps were stale. There's currently more than 20 maps in world of tanks yet people still complain.

No matter how many maps there are, it will -never- be enough. So why don't we all try to keep this in mind, and be happy with the quality maps we've been given so far?

Uh, no, there are 4 maps, with variants.

Quality? The maps we have show no vision, the maps are all Earth-based, and the map guys haven't shown any interest in going Sci-Fi.

To say that these maps are quality is a joke. 3 out of the 4 we have are linear and too small.

Semantics: for when words are supposed to actually mean something.

In this case, the definition of what a new map is. I consider them separate maps because each map alters gameplay. Miscreant is a pessimist and feels the variants are not separate maps because they're based off the same location. Both views are partially correct; neither of us can disprove the other. So yes. Pure semantics.

If you think adding a toy ship with a hole in it, or wishing everyone a Merry Christmas with a sprinkling of white powder and a chill in the air, or changing the ambient light values around from "let's kick some mech butt" to "eff this, I'm going to bed" is an alteration of gameplay, then perhaps we can agree that you're incredibly easily amused.

You're rude and obnoxious, and your pictures aren't as funny as you think they are. See? I can senselessly attack people instead of respecting their opinions, too. Because that's all any of this is, though you seem to conveniently forget it a lot, considering the unwavering negativity found in your posts.

Now let's consider the points you're making. To you, a boat and a mound of snow mean nothing. Between the boat and the avalanche, two major lanes are altered. The lake is much safer for both sides to engage in during the summer, because of that obstruction. It functions like a riskier version of the crashed dropship in Frozen City. On the winter version, the lake is open and dangerous, which takes either ECM, faster 'mechs, or a distraction to safely utilize. The avalanche gives the west team a very strong sniping point for jump jet capable 'mechs, which has the effect of shoving the engagement more towards the center lane. However, it makes the cave a much sneakier means of flanking than the summer variant, since you're less likely to run into half of the enemy team immediately on the other side.

I'm sorry that playing on a night map apparently makes you sleepy, but that doesn't change the fact that engagements on a night with almost no ambient light has significant impact on gameplay. The heavy use of thermal vision makes it both easier and more difficult to see what is going on, since all 'mechs look like random heat blobs from a distance. Hiding in heat shadows from fires becomes a viable tactic. The use of night vision for close range engagements also becomes viable, giving you a better chance to see what's going on up close while also obscuring your ability to see distant threats. Finally, since most people stay in thermal vision, a clever pilot can shut down in a corner and effectively disappear. I dare you to respond with an objective and well-reasoned post.

This is getting away from the original thread topic. Maybe we should return to it.

So...instead of having 4 paths to the enemy, we have 3? That's not really changing the map for good.

adding the ship was changing the map alot... you always see that when you have a defensive team on both sides... just because you don´t use it, it doesn´t mean it has no sense... to me, the ship added an extra bit of fun to FC

Well I figured I'd ask since we're two weeks from the map and still no images on the site for Alpine...Hope they upload some screens soon. (From what I've seen so far, it's rather uninspired and simple, just really large)
